Dressed to Kill

(Media) kinda suppressed this film because of the Hitchcock trespass. It NEVER got what it deserved.

Some genuinely terrifying parts in this...

Caine in the vestibule as the girl settles in at the elevator.
The cross ways cut of Caine picking up that glove on the street.
Of course the dream sequence at the end,,,the empty hospital shoes.
Dickinson's last glance (looks left) at the outside world as she is "rushed" into the man's apartment building.
Caine in the subway car window.

This film is the goods. Absolute goods.

I'd give you a Direct Hit, PR, but, I'm on your shit list & you wouldn't see it.

i've only seen dressed to kill once, quite recently, and i remember liking it quite a bit, but it seems to have fallen out of my head about as quickly as it entered. perhaps that's a reflection on me rather than the film, but if a movie has no staying power, i can't quite rate it among my favourites.

but i'll give it another go one of these days, and perhaps it'll work its way into my head a little more permanently.

The Empire Strikes Back
Friday the 13th

I guess I could also add Raging Bull and The Shining to that.

a strong year for weird films

bad timing
forbidden zone
the apple
xanadu
flash gordon (sue me, i love it)
cannibal holocaust
cruising (not great, but wonderfully bizarre at times)
the stunt man
saturn 3 is a terrible film, not even good in a trashy sense, but i loved it as a kid and i still get a kick out of watching it now and then.

1980 ??

reply

Oops, I thought it was 1980s. My bad.

In that case, nothing really stroke me, but if I must choose I'll take Empire Strikes Back as my favorite 1980 movie.

reply

Ditto. Still the best Star Wars movie.

reply

Agreed!

Nothing else that came out in 1980 could top that for me.

reply

Not even Jar Jar Binks?

Great choices

The Tin Drum- 1979 film that was released in the US in 1980. If the dean will allow it?
