If sex didn't exist?

Besides the obvious question about whether or not as a process WE would exist, would we either have troubles (or in some cases) wonders) without it, and would we then also have an issue in our humanity that is sensitive on MANY levels (not just with regards to s*xual a*us* or h*r*s*m*nt and whatnot, whether women or men) and not JUST in terms of how, oh in some cases it can give diseases or unwanted pregnancies and whatnot?

And would we have controversies surrounding the issue?

What then, even in lesser, but still serious cases, be seen as an equivalent of trouble relating to making "sexual remarks" about someone, and would be people be offended even IF, say, even if its a little rare, the person doing it did not MEAN offense or to have power over someone?

And would we still have LAWS AND MORALS on the issue? Or shaming and hysteria from IGNORANT that in REALITY seem to be FAR more common towards sexual than the non-sexual issues at hand? And in (not that I AM discriminating in any intended way) man and woman related world - it being women that are mostly vulnerable to the injustices surrounding these issues?

reply

There would be laws about something I'm sure. If sex didn't exist and you could only express your feelings for someone by holding their hand, then there would be a law about that or something equally ridiculous. A lot of women might really dig it considering most that I know don't enjoy sex at all or even want it unless it is resulting in a pregnancy.

My personal opinion? I don't want to live in a world where sex doesn't exist. No thank you.

reply

Too bad. That's where the New Puritanism is taking the world.

reply

Tell me about it. I'm moving out into the woods when the shit hits the fan.

reply

Man, you give me a headache. One thought and one question at a time. Please?
I got all jumbled up in the "process", "(or in some cases)wonders)" and the big one..... "humanity"!!!!
I'd love to understand where you are going with things sometimes, but in this case, I'm not even certain of what you are trying to begin with.
I admire the people here who actually seem to know what you are talking about. I certainly do wish I could figure it out.

reply

Hm well if sex didn't exist, then I guess all Woody Allen movies would be about an old guy and a young girl just being friends.

reply

Is that what the question was??????
If sex didn't exist, what would happen?

reply

Pretty much - compared to it existing and the values we place on it now, and did through history.

reply

Thank you for clarifying that.

reply

Men would have plenty of time to ask long confusing esoteric questions.

reply

Make that one man. Somehow , I think men would find a way to amuse themselves in other ways.

reply

There would be more problems with other things like violence and politics and such. And you would have to wonder about asexual reproduction. Perhaps even more babies would be born because a human would lay an egg with 10 offspring in it at a time or something.
Humans just wouldn't be humans without sex. Unfortunately it's almost always used improperly (fornication, adultery, etc) and has caused a LOT of problems.

What about the internent then?

reply

Most people around the sites I frequented under Zombie55 and AlTheMan and the various few varieties have grown EXTREMELY tired and even conflicted over me asking WAY TOO MANY VARIOUS sex-related questions in our humanity, for which I had to apologize and even conflate with my expensive paid psychologist quite a bit from time to time, even though I meant no offense even when I addressed some controversial aspects in a philosophical way, and questioned the various stances people have on the internet whilst telling everyone how bad I feel that I know much LESS about the subjects than some really big and popular bloggers out there.

Hope none of YOU fellas equally or worse hold any SIMILAR grudges.

reply

At times, I find you amusing. This is not one of those times. Now that I know what you do when you are not here, I say that you have way too much time on your hands. If you are on some other site asking deep questions about sex most of the time, put at least one hand to work doing something else!

Another confession I have, without going into details, I have addressed and asked several questions about a particularly unusual trope in CINEMA in Russian to my cousin in Russia, and at ONE point, I have LITERALLY devoted THE whole message questioning if in the opinion of my cousin, one scene from one movie actually WAS it. And...

Even though I am not TOO upset about it nor hold a grudge, and ultimately he understood later on what I meant...

Because of how some words in Russian sound SIMILAR and alike, whereas in the ENGLISH language they often sound different etc and have very specific meanings, my cousin MISTAKENLY assumed that I wanted to talk about female cruelty in GENERAL and he started going on about "the existence of mothers who abuse their children", which, thematically at least speaking, had nothing to do whatsoever WITH the topic that I was addressing.

But maybe he just didn't FEEL like talking about THOSE aspects in any way whatsoever, and kinda thought that maybe I ALSO wanted to talk about that aspect, and given his work as a psychologist in Russia, maybe he just wanted to generally also talk about the stuff that HE was dealing with.

And maybe he wasn't 100% sure about that movie scene EITHER and there wasn't anything too wrong about the fact that the whole "internet outrage" around it even if it was OR wasn't "that" didn't surprise or bother him too much either, so he didn't think "Oh well, let me research all the information around it, think about EXACTLY what you my cousin Alex is asking and I will get back to you personally and professionally in an engaging, thoughtful and understanding way and we'll sort it all out like that and I will explain to you if I thought that scene was it or not and how to EXACTLY react etc as a human being who is decent, kind and intelligent etc".

Point is - the common, mostly American but not limited to that, TREND in which ONLINE PEOPLE speak about that kind of stuff was NOT there, but maybe, like I say, it was

reply

just because he DIDN'T FEEL TOO MUCH like talking to me about it, so he wasn't worried about trends and accuracies and whatnot like that, rather than him not knowing about it for reasons like, DEAR GOD, in "Russia and Soviet Union where he came from, UNLIKE America, they didn't talk or teach about ALL of THAT stuff".

Then again, we, in our family, rarely have ANY kinds of talks with regards to sexual issues of any kind, EVEN in fictional cinema, so what is the surprise concerning family MEMBERS that are RELATIVES that live in RUSSIA whereas WE, me, my mum, my dad and my brother, live in UK, even if yeah, perhaps, American mentalities and Russian ones do differ, AS DO, talks between family members and strangers (no offense) ONLINE in GENERAL?

reply

I feel for your cousin! I had to read this twice, so please don't think that your long drawn out post and all of that typing was a waste of your time. I honestly gave it considerable attention.

I find this statement alone, quite interesting....
"Point is - the common, mostly American but not limited to that, TREND in which ONLINE PEOPLE speak about that kind of stuff was NOT there, but maybe, like I say, it was"

Man, I don't think you were cut out to be one of those "ONLINE PEOPLE" you speak of.....

If sex didn't exist we wouldn't be humans or mammals even. Our entire species is built on this evolutionary trait, one cell absorbs the other and creates a new being. There wouldn't even be 2 sexes, male or female, just 1 sex that will spontaneously reproduce on it's own at a specific given time, watch Enemy Mine. What does that mean? Work or specialization cannot be divided or minimized to raise a family. Work will have to take second place to reproduction and I imagine our lifespan will shorten because of this since after birth, we cannot devote any time on anything else aside from raising our offspring. Also, since birthing is spontaneous, does this mean we will birth just once in our lifetime? I imagine all these factors would lessen our numbers as a species where we would be reduced to extinction. Why does the family unit work? Imagine a catastrophe where we have to survive day to day, with a family, you would have 1 to provide for the family's needs and the other to raise the offspring, this is traditional of course but I imagine we would revert back to this as it is an evolutionary and necessary trait for our survival. We would require a partnership with divided chores in raising that family, and having 2 adults over 1 is advantageous.

Also, the difference between neolithic and paleolithic cultures is huge, the former can provide enough food for a large population where the people can devote enough time to extracurricular activities like developing art, writing, great engineering marvels, etc. The latter rather than being unintelligent, has to devote their entire waking moment to procuring food to survive. So imagine this if we had 1 sex only, but much much worse, because you simply cannot leave your offspring unattended and if you do, they would be subject to many potential predators as opposed to having 2 adults caring for the family. So say goodbye to civilization, long lifespans, and the human species altogether, we would go extinct.

On a slightly different note, what is the difference between the terms 'sex' and 'gender'?

reply

Clean up.

reply

It's complicated. In recent definitions gender is either a choice or what one believes themselves to be regardless of biology. Sex is your biological sexual makeup regardless of choice or preference. Prior to the late 20th century, gender and sex are interchangeable terms.

Just remember the new golden rule: Don't make sexual comments at work. It's unprofessional.

reply

"Just remember the new golden rule: Don't make sexual comments at work. It's unprofessional."

That shouldn't even be a new rule. Unfortunately, down through the years there have been neanderthals running the show. Mad Men, anyone?
You are right! It's unprofessional!

reply

It should have been the golden rule all along, even before women entered most workplaces. Because once things get into boys-will-be-boys mode among the guys, no work gets done!

As for being a guy working with women, remember not to shit where you eat.

reply

I've never experienced sexual comments, especially crude ones at work until recently. In this new place I'm working in, the people who have mostly a medical background will shout out or publicly make sexual comments and most of them are women and just 1 guy really. It's pretty shocking because I'm the only one that finds it unacceptable and unprofessional, so I'm the odd girl out.

Also, I've just realized that a lot of nurses will be nice to patients upfront but make cruel remarks about them and call them sick names behind their back.

What has the world gotten to? I think this is more of a recent phenomenon in my country, we weren't like this before. But with you Americans it's the other way around no?
