What is the most overrated movie from 2017?

That doesn't mean it's a bad movie, just a movie that received unwarranted praise.

I'd have to say Get Out. It was fine, but a pretty standard horror flick. It bugs me how overlooked it is that a large part of the premise is borrowed from Being John Malkovich.

The Shape of Water, hands down, no contest.

That sucks to hear. I was looking forward to seeing it.

Sorry. Who knows, maybe you will enjoy it.

Dunkirk

reply

Still haven't seen it! I'm sure I'll like it though. There's not much dialogue, right?

reply

very little dialogue - also not in linear time which was confusing.

reply

The Shape of Water...utter tripe.

reply

Second one to say this. Bums me out,but casts some doubt for sure.

reply

I watched 30 minutes and aborted. Not sure I will get back to it. If you take away the sexual element its basically a Disney movie.

reply

If we're talking about critics, "Mother!".

reply

Only the paid critics before release, lol. 68% on rotten tomatoes isn't very good. 58% from viewers is even worse. I think this falls under "over hyped" vs "overrated".

reply

I never go to Rotten Tomatoes. I was just basing it on the reviews I read at its release.

reply

Underrated gem of a movie 😉

reply

Why didn't I see that until now! You've opened my eyes!👀

reply

Glad to be of help! 😎

Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi. I cannot square the critics' take with the horror show that I witnessed.

reply

I agree with you on Get Out. I don't get the praise at all.

Two films have been universally loved so far... Get Out and Lady Bird... I've only seen the former so far and it is most definitly overrated far beyond anything it could justify...

It's a solid horror comedy with a topical premise... It's one of the best in it's genre for a while, but it isn't the socio-political analysis that critics want it to be.., if anything, it has a cop-out ending.,,

I expect Lady Bird to be a generation defining film given the hype I've heard so far... Let's see... I've reserved judgement, but that is some big talk...

Next to these two, the anticipation for Dunkirk seems mild... To be honest, if anything Dunkirk surpassed expectations... what a "grand" movie... earns it, hard...

reply

I haven't heard one person who liked Ladybird.

reply

Critics love it, almost unanimously...

reply

Yep Get Out
