Favourite 80s horror movie?

This is my favourite decade for horror/slasher movies,I'm determined to watch all of them. There's so many I love

Happy birthday to me (1981)
Sleepaway Camp (1983)and the sequels
Blood rage (1987)
Fatal games (1984)
City of the living dead (1980)

Which is your favourite (s)?

I tried to go based on the ones that I found to be particularly good amongst the saturated swamp of campy films that were released around this time. There's a lot of bad with the good in this era, unfortunately, so I wanted to give you a few more (obscure) titles to add to your watchlist.

Some good ones that come to mind, aside from the usual 80s choices and ones already mentioned somewhere in this thread:

Alligator (1980) - Killer animal

Dark Night of the Scarecrow (1981) - TV movie, supernatural, revenge

Just Before Dawn (1981) - Slasher, wilderness survival

Hell Night (1981) - Slasher, Gothic horror

Butcher, Baker, Nightmare Maker (1981) aka Night Warning - Slasher, crime

A Blade in the Dark (1983) aka La casa con la scala nel buio - Foreign, Giallo

Angst (1983) - Foreign, home-invasion

Sole Survivor (1983) - Supernatural

10 to Midnight (1983) - Crime

Humongous (1982) - Slasher

The Majorettes (1986) - Slasher, action

Near Dark (1987) - Vampire, western

Dolls (1987) - Supernatural, Gothic horror

Ghost Town (1988) - Supernatural, western

Scarecrows (1988) - Slasher, action

Intruder (1989) - Slasher

Two that I want to see are Next of Kin (1982) and Endangered Species (1982). There's a lot though that I want to see, but haven't been able to find. YouTube and Amazon Prime are usually the best bet though... and keep checking and often because stuff is getting put up and taken down so often on both services.

I've seen some on list but not all of them,I recently watched They Live(1988),that was a fun one.

reply

There are so many. Just a few:
Hellraiser
phantasm II
Serpent And the Rainbow - this freaked me out as a kid when I first saw it.

reply

I love Hellraiser and Hellbound Hellraiser 2 but didn't care much for the sequels.

reply

Really wouldn't call this my favorite but it is one I really like and I haven't seen it mentioned in this thread yet. The Burning from 1981. Decent summer camp slasher movie with appearances by a young Jason Alexander and Holly Hunter.

reply

Yes also Fisher Stevens was in it.

reply

That's right, Jason Alexander with hair is so odd to behold I forgot about Fisher Stevens!

reply

I love movies set in a camp. I have all the f13ths and Sleepaway Camps on dvd.

reply

Yeah I'm a big fan of camp movies too....Love Sleepaway Camps 1, 2 and 3, but Return to Sleepaway Camp is pretty terrible imo.

reply

Mother's day ( 1980)is another classic, two thugs torment three girls in the woods and their mother encourages them to hurt them.

reply

I haven't seen Mother's Day in years but yes that is another good one!

He Knows You're Alone is another largely forgotten early 80s horror movie.

reply

Is that the one with Tom hanks?I know he was in horror movie when he started his career.

reply

Wow good call on that, yes he is in it!

reply

I wonder if the actors regret their early roles in horror movies, lol. Kevin Bacon (f13th) and Johnny Depp(Nightmare on elm Street) come to mind.

reply

I would say probably not...at least not of the ones you mentioned because those parts didn't really hurt their careers and there was nothing all that embarrassing about them. Johnny Depp even made a cameo in Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare so he must have at least some fondness for a role that gave him his start.

Now had Kevin Bacon or Johnny Depp been say the center link in a Human Centipede....then they feel some regret lol

reply

Haha that made me laugh, thanks 😂
