There were stories back then about it being a sexual encounter gone wrong, but in that case I don't really get the lie. Are we to assume that he had sex with the guy, who then asked to borrow his phone and ran off? After which Spacey ran after him and fell? And in a panic he made up a completely different story, but the next day realized there were too many inconsistencies? It's possible. I always thought people were a little too quick to assume it was a sexual encounter in the park just because he's gay.
