Vacations
Where do you want to go?
Where are your top destinations?
Love to go to the Rocky Mountains and ride the train. Also, visit Alaska
Mombasa: Loved the beach & safari.
India (as backpacker): Long time ago did a backpack trip to India. Interesting country - lots of noise, dirt, smell of different kind, etc. but the people are really really nice. Would love to go as normal tourist now since can't lift the backpack anymore. ;-)
Italy: Very nice place. Didn't think much of Venice - it was smelly as hell & not my cup of tea. Florence was the best.
Paris: Very short trip (while visiting Italy). Really nice city and Eiffel Tower IMHO is something special.
Dubai/Abu Dhabi: Concrete jungle but I love all the stuff they have done personally (not so much my wife). Gardens, malls, skyscrapers, etc. Loved all of it.
I am sure there are others I will remember soon.
I'd like to explore the Lesser Antilles sometime soon. Maybe Guadeloupe or Grenada.
shareThese days? I long for summer when I can gather up my gardening tools and venture out into the wilds of my yard. I dig in the dirt, weed, water, fertilize.....
And when I'm done, I travel up to my front porch glider where my husband awaits me with an ice cold beer. We sit there and admire the flowers, look around at the neighborhood and watch everyone drive or walk by. Sometimes they stop and share their adventures with us!
Yeah....... that's a real vacation! I get to sleep in my own bed too!
In theory, I love to travel, but I prefer sleeping in my own bed. One thing I would like to do is travel by train, maybe out west somewhere.
shareHi GlenEllyn! Some of my favorite travels have been on a train. It was nice. Same thing with flying. It got you there fast and I liked the service.... back in the 70's....
Now????? Forget all of that. There are far too many scary people in this world. Travel is a pain in the rump what with security ......
Of course, I can just be sitting out on my front porch these days where I can even be shot by some lunatic in my own neighborhood.
No matter where you travel, it's best to travel with the ones you love.
Me too Margo!
Firstly I hate travelling with a passion. From the waking up at "stupid O'Clock" to get to the airport 3 hours in advance of a flight that will be delayed by another 3,the dehumanizing herding of sweaty people onto a plane, sitting on a death trap with people who seem to forget how to behave in public or want to get shitfaced, crying babies kicking my seat...I believe I've made my point!
I'm lucky enough to live in a beautiful cottage with a beautiful garden, always something to see,it's peaceful and I hate leaving to go to work.Sitting outside until midnight on a warm evening sipping wine and watching the nocturnal animals come out,the stars are clear because there's no light pollution and as you say...my own bed.Room service would be nice but I'll settle for a cup of tea.
Dazed,
Love the "stupid O'Clock" term. These travel "procedures" are a big reason why I have no intention of flying again, which of course, limits where I go. It would take some kind of family emergency to get me on a plane these days. And every time I see reports of travel nightmares like bad weather and canceled flights, I wonder why people travel. Is it really worth all that stress? No thank you! My back yard is perfectly fine.
LOL! Oh Dazed! you just described some of our vacations of yesteryear! After all of that, you need another week at home just to recuperate! There ya go! That week at home is the real vacation..
"Room service would be nice but I'll settle for a cup of tea."
I believe I'll have one now!
Well to tell you the truth, I hate flying (from the similar reasons to long queues, 3 hours prior, idiotic people, etc. etc.) but I love to see different places. I would like to see everything there is in the world while I can still walk and able to move around. I can't think of a time when I will be stuck in a house. :-(
I haven't been to South America, US, most parts of Africa, etc... So many places I have to see.
Australia. My sister lives there but I've never been. Someday.
shareNew Zealand tops my list, and if I make it that far, I'd visit Australia, too. Not likely to happen, but I can dream. There are plenty of places here in the US that I haven't visited, so there are other adventures still to have.
share"There are plenty of places here in the US that I haven't visited, so there are other adventures still to have. "
I always did have one screwy half assed dream.....
My husband and I got married at the courthouse back in 1981. I had no wish for a big expensive wedding at the time. I have no regrets. The marriage is a good one. We're still together and happy 38 years later. I can't help thinking though.... It would be a real hoot to go off to Las Vegas and renew our vows in front of "Elvis".
Strange thought - Elvis died four days before I got married.
shareWhew! 1977?
My step mother was such a fan.... I was a Beatles girl, myself.
I had come home on leave from the Army that August. He died the day I left and flew back to Colorado where I was stationed at Fort Carson. I got back to the base and I heard that Elvis had passed. I immediately called home and consoled my stepmom.
She called me the night we heard that John Lennon had died. Later, I kidded her. I told her that she had to be around to console me three more times. Sadly, she was no longer with us when George passed.....
Where am I going with this? That's what happens when you age. You begin to ramble!
I have always wanted to dive the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. I don't think that will happen now.
shareLoved Cuba, Italy, Puerto Rico.... Also loved New York. I actually got lost on my way to a Yankee's game and was helped by a very beautiful stranger.
I have never been to an NFL game so that is on my bucket list too.
Cuba must have been nice. I've been to Puerto Rico twice and probably won't go back.
shareMexico was amazing and id go back in a minute!
Jungles, ancient ruins, great service...i saw a scorpion and possibly a monkey!
(It was dark so im not certain it was a monkey but it looked like one)
In Mexico i flew out of a spotless airport guarded by tough men with rifles and baggage carriers who were happy to go the extra mile for a decent tip back to screaming hordes of shitbags the moment we disembarked in Queens...hilarious to witness the transition from embattled Mexico to 'GREATEST CITY IN THE WORLD!!!'
If i didnt live in NY i would never visit this filthy cesspool
Mexico is professional at the tourist game and they have my business...
The people were fantastic as well and lots of them speak English...pretty well too!
Though to be honest they screw up pronunciations pretty badly a lot and its very funny and cute to hear
Mexico for me
I really enjoyed Puerto Vallarta. I sat through a bullshit time share thing for a free day of sailing. Well worth it! I hear Huatulca is supposed to be good place to visit too. I didn't think much of Playa del Carmen. I probably won't go back to the Yucatan area. Shame so much of Mexico is off limits to foreigners. I would love to explore Mexico's interior, but right now the risk isn't worth it.
shareIt it a damn shame whats happening there
