Why are the discussions anything but movie/tv related?
Seems like someone gets the point of regulation now.
Why are the discussions anything but movie/tv related?
I think you need to be regulated.
share
I think the traffic dropped off just because it's summer and the regular tv season is over, it will pick up again when the new season starts.
*shrug* Better this than trolls bickering back and forth. But it isn't the best either.

I guess people get tired of having to wait for days until someone replies. So many (too many perhaps) sections and not enough active members who seem to be willing to check them all out. People still too much spread out over different places. Imdb2, tmdb and smaller sites aimed at a certain interest also facebook groups.
shareYes. It is good to have at least one active section until enough people come to fill out the individual boards.
This reminds me of the dumb ending in Battlestar Galactica where
[spoiler] they have this tiny group of people who decide to separate and wander Earth separately[/spoiler]
Everything about the BG ending was awful. That robot montage was painfully bad.
shareYeah, I remember the first hour being okay and then it really went downhill. A lot of good shows blow the ending so I still have fond memories... but it's too bad it wasn't better. Was hoping Caprica would succeed but that was weird too.
shareThe worst part was I along with a lot of other people predicted the ending in season 1. The show had been so good for most of it's run I can't believe they had to retread something from several episodes of The Twilight Zone.
shareI'm starting to feel a bit discouraged from posting.
shareI'm not sure what you mean. What's different? Where are the headline discussions shown?
[confused]
[deleted]
Okay, I see what you mean now. It's because people have posted to those News, Rumors, and Gossip threads on that tab.
share[deleted]
This is what I was complaining about yesterday. It's a terrible development, BECAUSE THE PORTLE TO MOVIECHAT HAS COMPLETELY LOST ITS PERSONALITY. It looks like the portle to Headline News. This is the first part of MC that newcomers see. Is THIS the way that we want them to see it, awash in a sea of breaking news and not one thread about movies, TV shows or other entertainment-related topics? This is NOT going to expand the posting population on this site.

Totally agree. JIM DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!
shareDazed, I agree with you. We should be discussing other general stuff, not politics. Why do posters use the General Discussion board when they could just use the Politics Board? It's such a big turn off. I hope Jim does something about it.
shareAnd it's being done mostly by one poster, with a little help from another one. Take a look at who's making the first posts on these things. The gut is wagging the dog.
shareI can't be bothered to look at those threads. I'm not even American, but even if I were, I would never post on a 'movie chat' board about politics. EVER.
shareWhy do posters use the General Discussion board when they could just use the Politics Board? It's such a big turn off. I hope Jim does something about it.
Jim made a mistake. One jackass with, presumably, an agenda, can change the very nature of this site.
shareLOL ! Yes, glad you picked up on that .
shareJim is very receptive to emails about the site. If he gets enough emails from members stating their dislike of the feature, he may try to change it.
[email protected]
[deleted]
There is no poster. They are just news articles that are listed in the News, Rumors & Gossip section. When someone makes a comment on one of those news articles, the thread is then moved over from N,R&G to this board. If an article is from CNN, then CNN will show up as the OP etc.
share[deleted]
Anytime 😃
shareYes Jim made it like this so he can kindly fix it. I have started a new thread asking him to make a News, Rumor and Gossip board and redirect all comments from there to that specific board. Let's see if he replies.
shareHe doesn't really reply on the board too much. But he is very receptive to emails. The more emails he gets from people about something, the better chance he will try to help. His address is [email protected] 😊
shareProblem is I don't like using my email. I didn't even use it to sign up here.
share[deleted]
If the problem is you don't want to use your email because it's private, you can just make another one just for using for Movie Chat. Email addresses are free, and you can have an unlimited amount of email addresses....
Jim really does care what we think about the site. He just doesn't have time to read all the posts. So he encourages us to email him about concerns and glitches and suggestions to make the site the best he can make it. And he really does read his emails and responds accordingly. Just a few weeks ago I was unable to post or reply or a answer PMs. I emailed Jim and he got me back up and running in less than 2 hours. So it really is worth contacting him about concerns. Just make a new email address and add it to the sight. You don't have to turn notifications on if you don't want them on.
This is just a general reply to all:
I know all the threads look political, BUT, if you click on the News, Rumors & Gossip feature of this board, you will see that every story is CELEBRITY RELATED. Celebrities are all up in politics ass right now so, hence all the politics.
Related to celebrity and hearsay. Not related to entertainment, movies and TV shows.
shareSo then "HBO may push Game of Thrones' final season to 2019, and that wouldn't be a bad thing" is not showbiz related?
Or "Chris Cornell Autopsy Report: 'Drugs Did Not Contribute' to Death"?
Or even "Wonder Woman Sequel Characters We Want to See"?
Because that's listed there in that very section.
What would be nice is a "Hide Original Post" button so we could click away original threads we don't want to see. But, until/if we get that, we'll just have to use our "Internal Ignore System" to just scroll right past the posts we are not interested in. But I know that's harder for some people to do than others.
Original threads should be made by posters, word by word, .....and not just 'replies' to articles, no matter what the article is about.
shareAgain... let Jim know about it, since it's HIS BOARD AND HIS FEATURE. Whining on the boards doesn't really get things done with him. Direct contact does. But I know there are people who would just rather whine and complain.
shareNah I'll just reply to stupid articles to get my point across.
Good luck with that. Oh and whining on stupid articles keeps bumping them to the top. 😂😂😂😂
shareOh I know I'll have no luck.
I just backed out of one where you were the only poster, bumping it out of News/Rumors/Gossip and into General Discussion. Please don't do that. It's annoying enough that two or more posters here do this deliberately, for who knows what reason, except some sort of disruption of the board.
But you don't like it any more than most of the rest of us do, yet you're contributing to it. Instead, please consider writing to Jim, or bumping up your post appealing to him to show such threads on the N/R/G tab, or another dedicated board, or some other approach.
I'm doing it to make a point to those posters who don't seem to mind. If I had signed on with an email address I would email him, but I didn't, so I won't. I'm sure there are plenty of people who are happy to though....

shareI know you are, but unfortunately in doing so, you're only adding to the problem.
shareBumped again. You see what I'm saying? The more you ignore the threads you don't like the better chance you have of the thread sinking down lower and lower to the bottom of the pile.
shareSo, the question here is, is this feature generating discussion? And is it generating helpful discussion, one that'll bring more people in?
I don't know who's accessing that, or if it can be accessed, but aren't we in the "trial and error" stage still?
I don't mind a thread from the News,... tab every once in a while, but if the first 2 pages are filled with threads from there, and troll posts, I'm not sure if it creates a very stimulating environment. And, yeah, I liked it better before (though I sometimes comment on those as well).
Maybe be the two tabs can remain separated, and the threads that have discussion on the news articles can go in their own tab. Sort of separating of user generated threads and not. Or would that be too complicated?
Mina, it's not generating good discussion, that is, discussion that is germane to movie chat. It's creating discussion like what grew out of the O.J. Simpson murder trial, that is, discussion that isn't movie chat. bubbathegut is clicking on useless links and posting banal comments and flooding the portals with dimwitted crap. This is an assault on the essence of Moviechat.
Most of these carryovers from Gossip, etc., have, what?, three comments attached to them, many
of them asking why this topic is here at all. This is not growing the site. This is not expanding the discussion. This is a jackass seeking attention because he cannot create it any other way and because Jim has unfortunately handed him a means for doing so.
Well, now we see that as with the abuse of the Trending tab, this also can be used to disrupt on topic discussion. Now Jim and the mods can turn some attention to this issue as well.
I don't know if banal comments should be penalised, but we do have rules about spamming and manipulating features.

I think it's going to be better. People can still comment on those, if they want to, but it won't bog down the flow of General Discussion.
share[deleted]
The odd one, yes. But this seems like something different. It's like the Trending section abuse all over again.
And I don't know if it's just me, but wasn't the recent "attack" longer that the other ones? After a big freak out (or whatever it's called), whoever it is stays low for a while. This time, they just went right back at it.
