So what are your favorite movie genres?

Seems a few people confuse me with a troll creating sock accounts. I don't know if this will convince them but heck I can try.

My favorite genres is horror. That's what I watch mostly. I especially love the the combination with fantasy and sci-fi. I prefer older horror pre 2000s.

does that also include surreal movies? I do love the Company of Wolves.

I'm a big horror fan. I love surreal (Lynch type films) and drama or comedy

reply

Of course you do sunny, I know you from imdb boards and TE, and you can confirm I'm not a troll called Ben.

reply

I'm pretty confident you're not a troll named Ben. Who's accusing you iof that?

reply

napsdufroid, see the topic I started on imdb2

reply

I can't be bothered feeding the trolls. I'll just trust your judgement to keep posting and move on.

reply

Well,i don't have a particular genre,but i like milla jovovich movies,tv series as the walking dead ,blind spot,criminal minds,etc.I mostly a gamer rather a movie person.😉

reply

I did play one of the Resident Evil games on the first Playstation controlling Jill Valentine. I was rather disappointed that they chose for Alice (who iirc not star in the videogames) as protagonist. Nothing against Milla but I had hoped they picked Jill. Happy she was in the second but again it was Alice as protagonist and afterwards.

reply

Well, they announced a new reboot, maybe they'll focuse on jill now.I will love to see a team work between Ada and Jill.

reply

That's Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. I played the heck of that game too. One of the best game on the original PlayStation. Actually they have both Jill along with Nemesis in the second movie, Resident Evil: Apocalypse.

reply

Correct. I didn't have many games on the PS but that one I had and enjoyed. Don't think I ever beat it but I think got close to the end. I haven't played any of the other RE games before or after. The movie was a nice addition yes but still prefered the game over it.

reply

Me too. Well, I played the first Resident Evil game but that was before I had my own PlayStation, so I only played a little bit of it at my friend's house.

I'm looking forward to the rebooting of the Resident Evil movie franchise. I think they need to focus on rookie cop turned badass Leon Kennedy this time around.

But without Paul W.S. Anderson at the helm... I'm not sure about the success.

reply

I have quite a few. I guess the favorite group of genres is mostly on the darker side.
So it's multiple genres but there is a common thread running through them.
horror
mystery
suspense
spy
sci fi
drama
film noir
crime
exploitation/grindhouse/vintage schlock

I also like documentaries, foreign films, indie, animation (especially pre-digital animation).
I like classic films, and some action movies if they are more artsy. Like I LOVE Luc Besson and John Woo. Don't like Michael Bay.

Genres I would rarely choose to watch
chick flicks
Rom Coms
most comedies actually, although I like comedy on TV shows
Teen movies made after the 90s
Most newer kids movies/animated movies
musicals (although I saw La La land)

reply

I think we have similar likes and dislikes. Oh yes I really don't like Bay either but I'm no fan of action movies in general. What are examples of more arty action movies? Sucker Punch perhaps?

reply

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon?

Oh, and Sin City perhaps.

reply

I don't know if i have seen Sucker Punch.
I like the Bourne series, I like action or spy movies that are set in Europe and most of the Bourne movies are. It instantly seems more sophisticated when it's set in Europe.
'Taken' is also in that category.
I like the Mad Max series, and most post-apocalyptic movies. Especially when they create a whole new world with the art direction (like Mad Max does).
I like the first Die Hard.
I like 'Lock Stock and two Smoking Barrels', 'Snatch', 'Layer Cake', 'Croupier', ' The Limey', 'Sexy Beast' 'In Bruges'. Loved 'Sin City'. I like most of Tarantino's stuff. I LOVED 'The Hateful Eight' (although that is more of a western than a contemporary action movie, but it has a modern point of view).
I guess I like action movies when they have a more post-modern, ironic, rock&roll kind of vibe, if that makes sense. Movies with anti-hero instead of very simplistic good guys and bad guys.

reply

I don't have a favourite genre, in terms of, that's mostly what I watch. But I have an affinity for dystopian/post apocalyptic movies; horror, I like it best with a heavy dose of humour; movies with fantastical elements; some sci-fi. I'd watch movies from all sorts of genres though.

Some things I mostly avoid are westerns and fantasy. I just never developed a taste for those genres.

reply

I don't really have a favourite genre, though I tend to be more intrigued by fantasy. I think that's because to me, anything can happen in a fantasy and the possibilities are endless, but a good one is also really grounded in truth. I used to be a huge fan of Stephen King films because, though often labelled as horror, they really encompass so much. They're so blended.

I guess I'm most interested in hybrid genre films, where you get a bit of everything.

reply

I like a little bit of everything but I mostly enjoy Horror. I enjoy mysteries with twists. Thrillers....
My favorites are from the 50's through the 90's
Some of my all time favorite TV shows are The Twilight Zone, Alfred Hitchcock Hour/Presents, Night Gallery, One Step Beyond.

reply

Comedy.
