Root Cause of Israeli/Palestinian Conflict

I'll add some details to your root cause comment:

Palestine had a population of about 10% Jews, 10% Christians and 80% Muslims living together mainly peacefully before WW2.

WW2:
The latest of many repeated European Christian barbaric atrocities against Jews caused them to flood into Palestine which initially welcomed them when many other countries like the U.S. and Canada didn't. Rejected Jews returned to Hitler by anti-Semitic U.S. and Canada probably died in camps.

Palestinians only complained after their country was swamped with Jews desperate to leave Europe. Again, other countries didn't want them! Palestine was overburdened with too many Jewish efugees which caused friction.

Obviously, a Jewish homeland was needed and they didn't care where. Some advocated for Palestine.

Britain decided on its own to give Jews (who were smaller in population) half of Palestinian land WITHOUT Palestinian consent.

Half of Palestinians were forced out of their country. Others were killed.

Realistically, both Palestinians and Israelis reject the two-state solution. Israel continues to actively destroy Palestinian homes and replace them with Jewish settlements in the Occupied Palestinian territories. They're basically oppressed, impoverished, controlled with increasingly more land stolen and civilians attacked, beaten and jailed.

It should make perfect sense why Palestinians reject Israel and want their country returned.

The root cause is religion. Plain and simple.

All religious people believe THEIR god is better than the gods of everyone else who believes in gods.

And those narcissistic/egotistical religious beliefs allow no room for any rational compromise or discussion...on anything...because religious people "believe" that just BEING religious should make them immune to having THEIR belief questioned...in ANY way.

A very convenient, self-deluding "morality" despite the fact that this latest incident with Israel proves that morality is rarely at the center of any such disagreements amongst religious factions. 

In some ways, the problems in the Middle-East are a vindication of paleo-conservative beliefs. Zionism is basically social engineering via immigration. The indigenous people in the area resented outsiders flooding in. Israeli politics is a forerunner to the current cultural zeitgeist. You have making everything about race (Criticism of Israel has long been framed as anti-Semitic). People criticizing Israel have long been canceled (Helen Thomas, Norman Finkelstein, and the idea that "freedom of speech does not mean freedom from consequences).

It's also tribal rather than principled. Republicans have increasingly opposed funding Ukraine because we need to care about "our people," but some have been quick to say we need a Speaker to fund Israel. What about funding the US government? Hasn't the US lavished aid on Israel for decades -- and where has it gotten us? The massacre carried out by Hamas was evil and unconscionable, but a group with hang-gliders does not pose an existential threat to Israel the way Russia poses an existential threat to Ukraine.

Republicans non-ironically defend a country borne out of unwanted immigration, supported by global elites, and designed to create a socialist state. Libertarian-inspired conservatives parrot talking points about a government's "right to exist." These are people who claim violence can and should be used to defend sacred property rights, except, I guess, if one's a Palestinian (as Palestinians do not exist, but Texans do). They oppose "welfare" policies but support "settlements," which are little more than government-subsidized segregated housing. But, again, this is where principles go to die and tribal allegiance hold strong.
