Wy do we "need" black and brown pilots?

https://news.yahoo.com/program-exposes-black-brown-youth-174014985.html

I was watching CBS Saturday Morning, as I often do, and they did a piece on this guy and organization. It was an inoffensive piece about a good thing until those dreaded words were spoken. A pilot said something like, "We need more black pilots." Then another guy - the guy this article is about - said, that he once saw pilots that " looked like me" and that inspired him to create his organization.

Why do we need black and brown pilots? Do they treat passengers differently when they know they "look like me"? When did "look like me" become the main criteria for doing something? That's not equality, it's favoritism. Borderline superiority. Why is it necessary a pilot be a certain race or color?

reply

I will go on record by saying that I don't give a shit about anything but their qualifications, their mental stability and their ability to do their job. Don't care what color they are, what gender they are, their sexual orientation or political leanings.

It should be like that for EVERY job or political position. Hiring or electing people for any other reason is not equality. There should be ZERO preferential treatment in education, the workforce or politics.

I forget the name of the nonprofit, but it's something to do with Compton. If the mission of the organization was to give kids from Compton opportunities they normally wouldn't have - because let's be real, not many kids from Compton become pilots - no problem. But based on race? Yeah, no.

reply

Sure they do. They can choose to do well in school, join the air force and learn to be a pilot. Most airline pilots come from the military. Fact is, most don't take advantage of their opportunities. My wife tells the story of when she was in college. She grew up with very little and got through school with no money from her parents or student loans. Strictly scholarships. She was in the dorm with the poor black kids who also got scholarships and grants, because of their race. They weren't there for an education. They never went to class, spent their grant money on things they could liquidate for cash and partied all night, every night. She worked her ass off, often went without money to eat and got a master's degree in 5yrs. Those other idiots flunked out because they didn't deserve to be there in the first place.

Only a dumb fucking democrat believes you can lift someone out of the gutter by giving them something they should've earned for themselves.

It's code for "We need to get rid of white pilots".

Whining about diversity is the new way to project racism.

Don't forget about gender. A lot of these equity/inclusion programs are designed to replace white males with females and people of color. I want to live in a meritocracy. Nobody will die if a certainly percentage of actors are required to be from underrepresented groups BUT people are more likely to die if the pilot, surgeon or engineer is incompetent.

I think it's admirable to have programs designed to encourage young people to pursue careers in aviation BUT I don't like seeing hiring quotas based on race or gender.

They did this with police chiefs, they did this with college professors, they did this with police.

Hundreds of people with better scores and more experience were ejected in order to offer diversity.

It's called affirmative action. When the police and colleges have to choose who they want, they have to reject many better qualified candidates in order to look more diverse.
The results are poor standards a, lowering of standards, poor results.

I would like to know about this "Look like me" stuff that has become very common. It is usually spoken by non whites. Isn't that racism? To not be happy unless everyone looks like you?

reply

Imagine if whites said "I want rappers who look like me"?

It would say that there is something wrong with rappers, who follow their culture, being black.

Aviation is a white man's invention. Why is it bad that white people have followed this tradition?
