If America Is So Badass How Come It Didn't Partake In World War 1 At First?

For the supposed "greatest country in the world" it was a weak (aka "bitch made") move to stay out of the most hardcore (at the time, obvs WW2 surpassed it) and badass war in history?

Seems like a recurring pattern that America is a Johnny Come Lately to the World Wars

And I have a Ph.D. in History so don't try to mansplain to me geopolitical reasons for why it ducked. Actually, don't reply to this thread at all. I KNOW the answer to my question, it's because this country is full of chickens

For someone who claims to have a Ph.D in history I would have expected more nuanced and sophisticated notions about why America delayed its entry into WW1, and WW2 for that matter.

America joined late into the war for both wars. Basically they played it smart by letting the others beat themselves weak before coming in fresh to finish whatever is left, lol. But in those idle times they were busy sending supplies to said allies and such. America before was pretty isolationist, now they put their nose in everybody's business.

It was cynical I agree with you. America took advantage of both world wars to finish off the British Empire once and for all so that they had an uncontested field to walk into as the new and undisputed world power. Realpolitik.

America was trying to remain neutral. The war was in Europe, not here. If you get involved in a conflict that doesn't effect you and go into another country waving guns, it's called an invasion.

The USA didn't get involved in either war until our interests were threatened and they had no choice.
