Walmart, Costco and Trader Joe’s are dropping mask requirement for vaccinated people

People who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 will no longer be required to wear face masks at Walmart, Costco and Trader Joe’s, the companies announced Friday.

Trader Joe’s became the first major retailer to update its guidance to allow vaccinated customers to go unmasked in its grocery stores Friday afternoon. Walmart and Costco followed and dropped their masks rules as of Friday evening.

The change comes after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced Thursday that people fully vaccinated against COVID-19 “can participate in indoor and outdoor activities, large or small, without wearing a mask or physical distancing,” with some exceptions including while traveling on planes, buses and trains.

It looks like that some things are getting back to normal.

My work had a meeting about this yesterday. We work with the public. My boss announced we are following the CDC guidelines. If you are fully vaccinated, you do not have to wear a mask. If you are not vaccinated, a mask is required. You may wear a mask if you want to regardless of your status. We will not be checking.

I'm not kidding, a few of my coworkers were on the verge of tears. Their political leanings were very clear. They wanted us to follow the science this whole time and now the CDFUCKINGC itself approves of this and they "aren't comfortable". They're both fully vaccinated, still plan on wearing masks, but aren't comfortable that our boss or anyone else isn't going to be following people around asking for proof of vaccinations.

This is harassment. I would encourage people to not do this. You are not entitled to people's healthcare status.

I'm pretty sure the boss also has no right to know your status. Unfortunately for the doomers that made the choice to make masks the hill they die on, they will just have to go back to 2019, and take care of themselves. Companies will most likely not force employess to vax now that OHSA handed down their liability ruling.

My boss - who is a liberal - said we will NOT be doing that. She is not putting herself or us in that position. She literally said she trusted the science and still does and that is why she's following the CDC. 2-3 of my coworkers were on the verge of tears and trying to convince her to make masks mandatory.

Good! Neither you nor the other employees are responsible for that.

What are folks going to do in a week or two when the CDC announces that the unvaxxed are no threat to the vaxxed and everyone can stop the protocols?

I feel heads will be exploding Scanners style.
