Movies you'd like to see done by different directors?

I had a coworker who was convinced The Shining was a Steven Spielberg film. How that's possible, I do not know. But now I wonder what Spielberg's The Shining would be like. I'd also like to see Kubrick's The Thing.

Tim Burton’s Batman Forever
Stanley Kubrick’s A.I.

I wish Terry Gilliam had gotten to do the first Harry Potter movie. I once heard he was in the running for the job. As much as I enjoy the early Potter movies, it's more for nostalgia than due to their cinematic merits and I find the direction uninspired. Gilliam would have been brilliant, I think. He'd already proven he could make a roaring great kids' movie with TIME BANDITS back in the 1980s.

Sam Peckinpah was supposed to direct Clint Eastwood in "Jeremiah Johnson". The deal fell through and the jobs went to Sidney Pollack and Robert Redford, who turned out a classic, majestic nature epic that is probably the best Mountain Man film ever, even better than Inarritu's more recent "The Revenant". I sure would have loved to see the blood-soaked Peckinpah/Eastwood version, though.
