[SOLVED] Looking for a 90's racial drama.

Saw the movie in 2003. Black high school teacher/college professor comes with a white woman's home to see her dog hung from the fencby a chain. She screams. Police arrive soon after that. That is all I remember. Any help would be appreciated. Also, saw the movie on HBO.
