So far I love Capote vs. The Swans. It's kind of nice to have a show where all the main characters are unsympathetic. Not that it's an excuse for bad behavior, but the episodes have done a good job of explaining Truman's motivations - his not ever fitting in, his own mother's abandonment of him and NYC society's rejection of her. I can totally see why he did what he did. Vindication. Anyway - it's a complex story and I love it - perhaps because I have an interest in that time period - and the Swans dressed so well. I love the fashion! Thank-you for your insight. I was a kid during the Vietnam years and I remember a lot of commentary and discussion about how it was the poor boys who couldn't afford college that got sent to Vietnam to serve and get killed. I suppose scholarships were available to a few, but I don't think financial aid (FAFSA) was available back then. If you or your family couldn't fork out the cash - you couldn't go to college. Therefore, for the most part, only people with the means to pay for college could get the deferral. Deeply unfair.
