Interesting question! They are very kinky for underwear but maybe that was Flash's thing! The character is so boring and wholesome that a secret kinky side to him seems somehow fitting... However it does seem more likely that they are the standard execution attire, especially as he was due to be buried wearing them too, and he seems quite keen to discard them in front of Aura after being revived. In which case someone on Mongo certainly got a lovely job stripping him naked and slipping those on him, presumably while he was unconscious too... The mind boggles, perhaps it's best we'll never know for sure! I agree it's a very dark and disturbing sequence, very adult content too The hero helpless almost naked led to his death by sinister masked and hooded figures Secured in the chair, face covered, silently and coldly, no mercy at all, just a job to be done, a life to be taken Flash accepting his fate emotionlessly with virtually no resistance makes the sequence even more strange and disturbing Helpless vulnerable body enveloped by shocking yellow gas, fingers writhing and clenching as if desperately trying to hold onto life before dropping limp and still Haunting and shocking... I doubt pain relief would normally be offered, assuming Ming the merciless lived up to his name! Something ' to help you on your way' presumably makes the gas more effective, more deadly, making a speedy death more certain, and this would be what the doctor would normally be giving, although not apparently, on this occasion... Presumably some kind of antitoxin, to prepare his body for the gas and be able to neutralise it. It would likely have similar properties to the gas itself, hence when injected his arm stiffens and his body shakes. The antitoxin itself must be a pretty unpleasant concentrated substance to have the ability to neutralise that gas so little wonder it has to be administered from a metal device... A few reasons spring to mind: If the gas is absorbed through the skin it will work faster for him to be as near naked as possible Clothes might become contaminated with residue from the poison gas so again better to be as scantily clad as possible To make sure he is not concealing any weapons and to make him as defenceless as possible As a humiliation, being forced to walk to his death in public virtually naked with just a tiny kinky pair of trunks to cover his manhood... 1 The helmet keeps him literally in the dark and helpless, the spikes probably indicate a special prisoner, maybe one condemned to execution 2 Several reasons his clothes are removed for the execution: Humiliation, being forced to walk to his death nearly naked To make sure he is helpless and has no means of defence So that the lethal gas works faster, being absorbed through the skin Any clothes he is wearing would become contaminated with gas so makes sense for him to be as near naked as possible 3 He walks into the gas chamber anyway because he knows there is no escape and he is accepting his fate and that he needs to be a hero even if it means he has to die 4 Black hood to cover Flash's face and emotions as he waits for the end to come and provide some comfort and cushioning from the head restraint 5 The black cylinder is a head restraint to control and contain Flash's head movements and keep it as still as possible while the gas is killing him 6 Not trying to escape but flash's muscle spasms and dying struggles as the incredibly toxic gas does its deadly work in a matter of seconds Horrific...
