If someone is watching a movie about child sex trafficking because they want to have fun and be entertained, I'd say they've got some issues to work out...
<spoiler>When he was saving the little girl from the jungle village</spoiler>, it <I>felt</I> like an action flick to me! I was all sorts of nervous for them lol
I thought it was a great mix of emotion, drama, suspense, and tension.
I completely agree! The movie wasn't political whatsoever, and the issue itself isn't either.
I also don't understand how anyone can have anything negative to say about the movie or its content or message. There was no glorification of pedophilia, or of trafficking, and there was nothing explicit or exploitative. It was as wholesome as I think it could've been, given the subject matter. And it highlighted the importance of the problem and showed that we can all work to fight trafficking if we can first acknowledge that it's a very serious reality everywhere.
I don't know anything about the Q thing, but I agree with your message about people making this into something that it isn't, which is a political and polarizing issue.
Child/human trafficking is a HUMAN issue, not a political one.
I saw the movie today, and I absolutely loved it. My mom is a christian conservative republican, and I'm more libertarian I guess, but it's the first issue we can completely agree on. And that's because it's not about Left or Right, it's about protecting children from the horrors of this world.
If people keep trying to make this a political thing, that doesn't help anyone, especially the children in these situations. It's only when we put that bullshit aside and actually unite together that we can make positive changes. I wish more people would understand that :(
I wish I could "Like" this comment so hard.
Finally a smart person on these boards! Thank you!
Neither this nor OP's are correct...
Same here. I mean, Penny said she was being slowly eaten alive, yet she seemed to only be missing part of one leg. So that seems like just once instance of butchering, no?
I was also confused when we saw him open the walk-in freezer and there were torsos and body parts everywhere in there.
But at the beginning of Noa's captivity, Steve says that the meat is best when it's fresh, which is why he takes it off of them while they're still alive, and why he <I>keeps</I> them alive throughout.
I mean, it shows us that he's had a lot of victims, but I feel like there are better ways of doing that that don't directly contradict an important aspect of the movie.
Amen! These are the droids we're looking for.
Ohhh my god, I can't help but yell and swear at the screen every goddamn time this happens in any movie!!
In this one I was just pissed off. <spoiler>The main girl could've killed him in the bedroom (and really many times before that). Then in the kitchen, Mollie hits him twice with the meat tenderizer, but she should've just kept clobbering him! Buuut of course she didn't. Then Penny stabs him <I>once</I>. Just so many times that any of them could've and should've kept going and didn't...</spoiler> I was pissed.
And then when <spoiler>Noa shoots him in the face <I>while he's lying on the ground defenseless</I>, that was just stupid.</spoiler>
But, again, that only matters if there's any sort of police involvement.
I really try to like these kinds of movies, and I really did like this one when I wasn't yelling at every character for being so fucking goddamn stupid at every turn. But I just cannot suspend my disbelief to the extent that these movies want me to.
If Mollie had gone to the cops in the first place and they iust didn't take her seriously (which, sadly, does happen in real life) then the rest wouldn't have been so frustrating.
But every single time that I think someone will call the cops, they never do.
Whew. Sorry for the rant.
I was torn between liking the movie in general but then hating just about every one of the characters lol
I thought the same thing (about major screwups) when we saw him licking the envelopes to send with the meat and items of the girl(s).
Of course that would've only mattered if *anyone at all had involved the fucking cops*.
Decades late to all of these, but thank you for catching that.
And it was TLE, Temporal Lobe Epilepsy, not FLE.
Seriously! I almost doubt she's even still alive at this point.
I think they prefer to just sweep things under the rug.
Scientology is kind of terrifying.
Thank you for this, I love succinct explanations like this.
Just had to pop in 11 years later to applaud you on your signature. Wynn Duffy is my favorite 😂
It's true, that cult is pretty messed up, to say the very least.
Exactly. Evil (or just bad) people can be incredibly charming and polite.
I agree with this comment.
People can be more than one thing.
Ah, the way it was written sounded like you were talking about the one book, not two different ones.
