"Subtle" lol. Very well put, it's usually teenagers and young people who get easily impressed by this flashy "artsy" stuff, and just by the mere portrayal of "disturbing" scenes ie the decapitation, they are the ones praising this movie. Same reason why movies like "When the Evil lurks" are getting so much praise. But that movie is terrible. At least this one is somewhat entertaining, but completely pointless. Holy crap, peole like you are the ones that are ruining movies today. Nobody saw that line as "hate speech" for crying out loud. The character just dislikes the image of two women in bed. Get over it. It would be too terrifying. You are welcome! This is after all my favourite movie. It is rather ridiculously large, I never noticed it before. https://i.imgur.com/l52sx7U.png As some other user mentioned, in the scene before you can see the fabric is folding on itself, so it was either that or a prank that went unnoticed. It was in the book though, although James Ivory did mention he only filmed that scene because Anthony Hopkins insisted on it, and didn't even complain when it was removed. He always asumed it was a moment of catharsis that Anthony needed.
Stevens broke her heart because he didn't have one to give
Watch starting @ 7:38 https://youtu.be/dZ8JvAJXHM0?si=lvI0F8aFnMDYHXA4&t=458 Agreed, and the problem is that she also managed to make Stevens miserable in the end. As with many English bachelors (something pretty common in GB), he was perfectly happy without knowing love. Then along comes this idiot of a woman who wanted everything to be according to her whims. I have "remains of the day" mug, but I'm pretty sure it's custom made because it was a gift and everybody knows it's my favorite movie lol. Hate is inherent to the human being. The problem is when it has to live in the same container as stupidity.
I wouldn't call it great, but it is pretty good and better than its reputation. 7/10 seems fair.
No, it is not better than its reputation, but rather you're in the minority of people who liked the movie, and that's OK. Either way they are stupid. Also they apparently thought having a baby was a good idea. You are right... but wrong at the same time. The movie very clearly shows you how it is Thelma's fault on the surface, but in the end these actions leading to horrible conclussions because of men. It's a story not meant to be taken literally. I don't intend to write an essay here, but Louise was very much on board from the very beginning because the only escape from her life was Thelma. You see her putting her boyfriend's photo down at the begining. She was not happy. Whatever happened in Texas (I assume was her father or grandfather raping her) was horrible enough to mark her for life. Again, she was on board the whole thing from the begining, she needed to be liberated. Well, he was just a normal guy who was put in the role of a hero without having a say about it. Granted, he was nosy and actually robbed the church for his own benefit. But that was the whole idea. When given the chance, he became a better person and actually saved the world, giving his own life in the process.
