Oh, trust me, there are people like that in real life, and weirder too.
I think that actually made the character and the story much more realistic. She was obviously abrassive, naive, entitled, co-dependent, and many more negatives. But she was also a caring mother, hard-working, intelligent, generous, and many more positives.
And that's what all of us, real people, are – a combination of good and bad. Don't forget that she had a very dysfunctional upbringing and family. Same as Sean, who was also, thankfully, a more complex character than just your typical one-dimensional cardboard abuser. In fact, one of my favourite scenes was when Sean tells her that they're family and they belong together because they both come from the same hell. Which is kinda the point.
The series is not about an angel trapped in Hell fighting the demons around her – that would've been boring, preachy and, frankly, unrealistic. It's about real damaged humans all fighting their own demons and trying hard to break the long and old chain of abuse that made them all prisoners to their faults.
If her character in Hillbilly Elegy is not a great performance and a rather big chance to take then I don't know what else could could count for you...
Normally, my sarcasm detector works pretty well but I'm having so much trouble deciding if this is just trolling or a very annoying rant by a drunkard with ADHD lol
It didn't ruin the whole movie for me but it was definitely unbelievable and the way she threw herself at him for absolutely no reason made it look pretty ridiculous. But the chemistry between the actors was not bad which saved it a bit.
You accept it!
Amen!
Jbran, yep I feel the same way.
