I guess it depends on what you're into now. Maybe your taste has changed? I remember watching 300 when it came out and hating it compared to Gladiator, especially the slow motion/stylish fight choreography and crazy blood splatter effects. I then came to learn more about the comic and the actual history of the battle of Thermopylae and came to appreciate it much more. In turns of pure battle scenes I still prefer Gladiator as it still "feels" more realistic and gritty (it isn't - the Romans didn't fight like that). For example I personally really felt the pain of Commodus' slow death by his own dagger (what with the gurgling sound and him dropping to the ground like a ragdoll). Ridley Scott is also no stranger to horrific violence. Alien, being so old still horrifies me with the crazy chestburster scene and Black Hawk Down is still one of the most realistic depictions modern warfare I've scene. I think he just toned it down in this one for the sake of narrative over style. Not exactly what I'm thinking of but that looks like a really cool show that I think I'll check out. Thanks for the suggestion! Hi thanks for that answer but I don't think it's the one I'm thinking of. The one I can remember had a slightly darker tone while remaining relatively kid friendly. I think the goats that I mentioned were actually more like centaur styled creatures. My memory might be so distorted that I could be way off base. I'm Australian. I saw it on old analog TV in the 90's before digital TV was a thing. It mightve been a French movie but it's been decades since I've seen it and I'm not sure. Upon searching the only film I've found that remotely resembles this description is Ip5 Lile Aux Pachydermes (1992). It's about a young black boy and a 25 year old man who steal a car from a city in France and escape by road off into the French country side. During this they meet an old man who decides to travel with them to a remote forest location. I've had a lot of trouble finding footage of Ip5 outside of a 1 minute trailer so it's really hard to confirm this movie to the one I had in my memory as a child. I'm 31 now. I was about 5 or 6 and saw it sometime in the mid 90s. Hope that helps. That's exactly the point of the story and why they canned the project at the end. View all replies >
