Okay I agree. It’s ridiculous. Who cares? People fall in love based on the person, I would say. Skin color is superficial. Holly Yeah, I’ve seen him in a lot of things. I just don’t see what’s so great about him. But everyone has different tastes. No offense meant. I'm with you about the stabbing scenes. Way too graphic. Some may argue, but I personally just don't think it's necessary. I like movies that can be scary without relying on gratuitous violence. That's the main reason I hated this movie, but partly was because I didn't understand it and didn't see any redeeming qualities, but now I think I understand better, and that helps a little. But I don't think it's necessary to show so much violence. You can imply it, then cut away. Just not my thing. It's a little hard for me to empathize with her knowing that she WANTED the demon. It was like she was happy about doing all those horrible things to people. Wait, that was supposed to be Kat, too (Emma Roberts's character)? No wonder I was confused. I didn't understand any of it. If she wasn't still possessed at that point, which seemed to be indicated when the priest exorcised the demon, why would she kill Rose's parents? But if she was possessed then, what, she invited the demon back in? Then why was she crying at the end, as if she felt horrible about what she'd done? I don't know if after all this time you check back on here, but just in case, are you saying that the reason Polly's husband murdered her was because she was a beauty? That was my big question with this movie, and I've watched it about 4 times now because I just like the feel of it, and I keep getting drawn back to it. The first time around, I didn't understand a lot of what happened, but with each time I watched again, I understood more. But that main question is still there: why would her husband go to the trouble of building a house (as it said in Iris's book) for them, then kill her on the day of their wedding & bury her in the wall (and how did he clean up all that blood on the wall from when he was nailing the boards back up?), then disappear? I know this was in the early 1800's (again, according to the book), but it seems like it still would have cost a lot of money to build a house like that. Was the man just a psychopath, and he married her just so he could kill her? The whole thing was weird. The blindfold, Polly not saying anything when she's walking around the house or even when she takes the blindfold off and sees her husband. The rest I think I get, but that part bugs me, and also the fact that it said she came into the world the same way she left it: wearing nothing but blood. Yet in the scene where it shows her being killed, she was dressed. Also, Iris said in the book that Polly didn't tell her how she died. That either she didn't want to or couldn't remember. But she showed Lily. So either she remembered then, or she always knew but suddenly decided to tell someone, and it's Lily and not Iris. Or when she whispered in Iris's ear, maybe that's what she was telling her?! Just a thought. Well said, regicasch-528-417119. The more I watch him, the more i love him (especially as Bobby Goren on Criminal Intent). I felt the same way. I like a good ghost story, and I had seen Ruth in Jane Eyre and liked her in it. But her "American" accent in this is just weird, and I hate how slow she talks. Which may be purposeful, to set the tone for the movie, except that she said that thing about how, in a house that's had a death in it, time moves more quickly. I would think it would be the other way around. But the thing that annoyed me even more than the constant whispering & weird way of talking was the language she used. Like when she was talking to her friend on the phone. It made me wonder when this was supposed to be set because she talked like it was the 50's or something. "Anyhoo" and "Heavens to Betsy" and things like that. And the way she talked to her friend sounded childish as well, like the OP said. It's a tv show, maybe a Hulu original. I'm not sure. I'm nearing finishing the first season. You should check it out. It's weird but interesting. True. :) View all replies >
