First of all, Rose was attention-whoring to commit suicide, like a typical woman. She would have never jumped. 2ndly, Jack Dawson made her despise her mother - there is punishment for filial impiety. Her mother was doing what was best for her - securing future.
Why do people do jobs they hate? Financial security. Jack turned her into a homeless woman with no future. Had Kate Winslet lost some weight Jack might have been saved.
