I know it's 18 years later, but your post is amazingly accurate and extremely knowledgeable!
Absolutely right BrandNewPoster!
Here with you.
I was told that the last Hellboy was bad.... and it was bad.
But Borderlands, without being particularly good, accomplishes its goal of entertaining.
By the way, Jack Black as Claptrap was the best!
Certainly, like in Broadway, they used prop hats that alowed them to secure the bottles in position along the dance.
Nevertheless, this musical number is one of the many highlights of the movie.
At the beginning of the movie is stated that all marriages were arranged by the parents through a matchmaker.
Actually was Yente, the matchmaker the one who found "the creepy oldman", who actually was one of the richest in in the village, and therefore (for them) a good catch.
Director Jewison wanted a younger actor due the rigors of filming in location in Zagreb.
They used, very successfully I may say, aging make-up on Topol. In some close-ups one can attest the quality of the makeup.
Totally agree with you!
.....just prestige expectations by some of the called critics.
