The police were acting dumb from the start of the movie. It was more of a satire in my opinion.
I thought about 20% of acts were funny, the rest was just disturbing.

I thought the Killing of a Sacred Deer was a better movie. "You Were Never Really Here" is super slow with scenes dragging or making little sense. I felt bored at the end of the movie.
I found it to be a serious political movie without "yo mama" jokes.
A surprisingly good movie indeed. I would recommend to be watched alone because it is very uncomfortable sometimes.
I understand your frustration. I felt the same way. I didn't like the twist because before it there were no clues that his siblings were murdered and he was imagining them. It's one thing to imagine and another to show in the movie that they are real. That put me off a little bit.
I think you did right. It was not worth to be seen in the cinema. Cliched from start until the end, and yes plenty of boring action.
You should have given it more than 10 minutes. I would say at least 30 minutes to understand what the story was about. And the story was progressing until the end. It never stopped. I watched until the end and I gave it an 8, I didn't give it a 9 just for the reasons you mentioned above. It wasn't an easy movie to follow.

To me, after some reflection it was clear that the dead boy in the morgue was theirs. When the parents saw the body they had an immediate shock that it was their boy. Then the mother went into denial, she got upset that the father wasn't denying it. Finally we see the mother walking out in despair and the father crying sitting by the wall. It was their child 100%, otherwise they wouldn't have this reaction.
No, it had nothing to do with the Russian - Ukrainian conflict. The movie wanted to show the atmosphere the Russian people had that time by watching TV news. It was sad because Russians and Ukrainians were very close in the USSR and they considered each other brothers.
Don't get me wrong. I liked the movie. I was replying to the OP who hated it. If he hated the first 40 minutes, then for certain another hour would've been the same. I must reiterate that the children in the movie were painfully annoying.
No, it doesn't get better. It was still annoying and depressing until the end. To be honest the kids are annoying in real life as well :)
I think it was Ashley because she really hated Halley, especially after she was beaten up.
Agreed the terror works well. Watching alone in the dark will definitely scare you:)
