I'd like to see a nomination for sure. She was excellent. But I think there is plenty of potential for a different winner. Respects to all the players. Well acted film. Didn't seem like it when I saw it. Went by pretty fast. I do think they could have tightened it up some. Not as far as cutting whole scenes, but just increasing the pace a tad. Much like Blade Runner, 2049 does sometimes take a long time to say very little. But the visual spectacle is more than enough to keep you interested. Every frame a work of art. One of the most beautiful films I've ever seen. The advice I've been giving is to find the biggest screen and best speakers you can. I saw it in 2D, so I can't speak to how the 3D helped or hurt the film. It's not. I don't know yet if it's better, as I'll have to see it three or more times to get everything out of it. Same as the original. Takes a deep look and repeat viewings. But it's a very good film. Finely crafted. A visual and auditory masterpiece. Every frame is as a work of art. Just beautiful. If you liked Blade Runner (and I did), go check it out. I totally thought that was coming. This movie sidestepped a couple of obvious gags. Kept you wondering the whole time. I thought the 'New Kids' jokes were eventually going to go over the line and wear out there welcome. But they stopped JUST shy. Film really was well written. Well acted (a cast of kids is not an easy thing to do well). I enjoyed the hell out of that movie. One thing that really impressed me. I'm a person that absolutely HATES 'jump scares'. I think they're stupid, and trite, and boring, and not scary at all. It always strikes me as a crutch used by people trying to be scary but who don't grasp what brings a feeling of true dread. I love that sensation, and very few films have achieved it. That being sad, 'It' had, in my humble opinion, the absolute best jump scare I've ever seen. Timing and buildup were absolutely perfect. Very effective. To impress me with a jump scare takes skill. This crew nailed it. Those who have seen the film probably know of which I speak. I'll not spoil it for those who haven't. In the movie, I'll root for the Apes, because it's a movie. If it were real, I'd kill every Ape I could. Get them before they get you. Yeah. Seemed that way. That's really my ONLY complaint in an otherwise phenomenal film. I forgive the unnecessary deus ex machina, because the rest of the film was so good, they earned an easy way out. I would have been satisfied with the Apes escaping the base, and leaving the human threat still out there. Leave the future a little more uncertain for Caesar's Apes. I'd have been fine with that. But either way, I simply say it's a case where it's more about the journey than the destination. Much like Logan (which this film reminded me of CONSTANTLY, which is a good thing), it's a personal odyssey, set against the backdrop of a larger event. This really was the culmination of Caesar's story, not that of his Apes. That story will go on. Fantastic flick. Can't say enough nice things about it. Not often that the third entry in a trilogy is the best of them. This is clearly such a case. A 10 for sure. I'm pretty sure 'Nova' wasn't her given name in Planet of the Apes (1968). The humans in that film were mute. There's no way she could have told her what her name was. Taylor GAVE her that name. He just picked it for her, and started to call her that. Least that's how I remember it. Using the same name was simply a nod to the existing material. Not meant to connect the two characters in any concrete way. No. I'ma go with 'Really that good'. I've seen it twice. Better the second time. In my humble opinion, of course, by FAR the best of the Wolverine films. Best of the Fox X-Men series of films. Best comic book/superhero film since 'The Dark Knight' (even though it doesn't have the feel of your typical comic book film at all), and I think it will age very well. It has a lot of fundamental strengths. If you decide to see it, have tissues nearby. It makes people cry, and for the best of reasons. View all replies >
