Ummmm...I'm not sure. DOFP erased Origins from continuity, however this movie had callbacks to precisely that flick, mainly -SPOILERS- the adamantium bullet. I believe this happened in a completely alternate dimension, with no links to either the original or "corrected" timelines. I don't think there is any way to reconcile it with either. It's quite good, but not extraordinary. The last third of the movie loses most of its punch, since it becomes -SPOILERS!!!!!-................. ...a retread of Origins, X2, DFOP and Last Stand. Once again, we have an evil government organization after mutant kids with superpowers, and Wolverine sacrificing himself to save them. Heck, quite like Origins, he stands alone against a super-powered mutant weapon protecting the kids. And once again, we have the government trying to wipe out the mutants -with more success, though-. It also had more than a touch of Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, IMO. So, plotwise, the setting begins great, the action is awesome, and there are new elements, but in the end we are back in too familiar ground. Still, is one of the best X-Men movies. Jackman and Stewart are great in their roles, although IMO Stewart outshines Jackman. Worth the price of the ticket. As disneyprincess mentioned, this is not the DOFP timeline, which I consider the "canon" one. This is an alternate future, one where X-Men: Origins still took place, but DOFP didn't. Keep in mind that in one of the post-credit scenes of Last Stand Xavier managed to come back to life transferring his conscience into a brain-dead patient who -luckily- managed to look just like him. So Xavier being around isn't outside that continuity. Everything is a rumor right now. Some say that Reeves' agent demanded too much money, sensing WB was desperate to announce a competent and popular director attached to the project after Batffleck's exit. Others say that the studio was offering too little money for a project as risky as this one. And others claim that WB was going to put a LOT of pressure on Reeves, and he didn't like the script too much, which sorta makes sense since Batffleck himself mentioned some reservations about the script being written at the time. Each one is completely plausible. I don't think we will ever know the truth. WB said that talks were not completely over, but their latest record regarding directors for its movies has been terrible. On the other hand, I'm sure Batffleck desperately wants to leave the role. He seems to be depressed, his pet project bombed horribly, and he clearly doesn't like the attention he gets being Batman. It would be quite a blow for WB if he leaves the role before shooting this film. View all replies >
