@atomicreturns i see them now. that's incredible. how did that happen? people love movies. that is the power that drives the thing. i think there is good reason for hope. one of these boards is gonna make it. i'm posting on a couple to do my part. but sadly much will be lost. i had posts on nice movies that were 20 years old .there was a ton of irreplaceable insight into those movies that is gone FOREVER. Sure threads about citizen kane will eventually be recreated because it's such a huge classic. but what about all the excellent small movies like "the assassination of jesse james..." that was a fantastic board, but it's extinct now and there is no way to get it back. what a freakin shame. yeah they messed up, but these effers have so much power they can recover from anything. look at netflix. their stock went into the toilet when they raised prices, dissed their core business model and it's customers, tried to foist "quickster" on their customers. and now look. they are back to being the 1000lb gorilla again. oh yeah, i see now in the "important notice" that it's being worked on. that's good. i guess this is a huge undertaking. I guess there is a lot of money that could be made if it is successful. i wonder why imdb didn't just sell off their message boards instead of killing it. it seems like it could have been a valuable resource, but then again maybe they figured they would just be competing with themselves if they let somebody else buy it. wow this so so true. the single inline thread will be the demise of this board. I still see movies if they are good. I used to go every week, but when I think back, most of the movies i saw were basically pretty much forgettable b movies. going to the movies was about the experience of being in public with my friends or date. sometimes if i was impatient, or the movie was only interesting to me, i would go by myself. but now the cost is too high to justify the movies that are available these days. especially in light of the high quality offerings online. and the experience is different now. the theater lacks the community feel that it used to have. the magic is still there for certain blockbusters, or the occasional artistically outstanding film. but overall the experience is just different now than in the previous generations. however as long as there are theaters open, there is still hope.
