Well Donald loves Gulf, he is often seen playing it There's no great films in the last 10 years. I would say 3 Billboards was maybe the best movie for me it teeters on greatness for me (great acting and themes presented very well, but just a tiny bit clunky in parts) and a lot of people seem to like The Banshees of Inisheeren from the same director but I found that very disappointing. Just watched this movie by chance over Xmas 2024, had never heard of it before. The scene with the "cockney woman" was really "bizarre" to me, as a Londoner all my life the accent was was like nothing I have ever heard before, but surprisingly it really worked too. She sounded like maybe a very beat up and crazy old prostitute, and it felt like the movie was going to go rather dark, but I never clocked it was Marlene, it was so well done, bizarre, but very well done. Great last 20 minutes in this movie, I really enjoyed it. https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/films/news/odyssey-christopher-nolan-matt-damon-release-date-b2669385.html Release Date July 17th 2026 Nah, he is 2nd favourite, Adrien Brody is numero Uno... https://www.paddypower.com/special-bets/oscars Other odds here too, the bookies are often right on the Oscars, if not they are usually close. I think Denzel has a very good chance of being nominated, and wouldn't surprise me if he won. The UK Bookmakers have him as 3rd favourite to win. I can see Mescal possibly get nominated too, (but won't win) especially after his SNL hosting, which was great, I think it will give the movie a boost, and his profile has risen from SNL....I can see him sneaking in as the 5th nominee. I have watched the movie twice, first time I didn't think much of Mescals performance, it seemed quite weak if anything, and a bit 2 dimensional...the second time I saw it (two days ago), I felt it was a much better performance than I had first thought, it had more depth for me, and the ending which left me feeling not much on the first viewing, well, that gave me the feels the 2nd time. In the UK, the bookmakers have Mescals 9th favourite, behind the guy doing an impression of Trump, and Daniel Craig in some obscure movie... I can see him moving up the chart above them two at least, and likely sneak up a few more places into the top 5. Ahhhh, I think I have it, he is doing a Very Serious Roger Moore 7/10 Not a Classic, but Very Good Big Screen entertainment, that does continue the story quite nicely really. Denzil was pretty good, and his character does get interesting for sure...but I am surprised at the calls for him to get an Oscar (best supporting), I don't think it was ana amazing performance, just pretty good. It's up in YouTube at the moment too. Totally agree, and with the Thread title. I thought it was amazing for the first 45 minutes, the style of it was very impressive (even the nods to other directors was done nicely) but then it just kept doing the same thing for the middle hour or so, I nearly gave up on it, the ending was good though. I might have watched it in a similar way... If so the best parts were the funny Indian adverts that popped up occasionally They should rescind Joaquin's Oscar for the first movie for "false claims" that he was playing the Joker. I'm 50, I honestly can't remember such a bad reaction from such a large majority to such a highly anticipated movie. I remember the reaction to some Shamalanadingdong movies being very disappointing, but the anticipation levels were nowhere near as high, for example. Good points above about LGBTQ+ characters being hinted at to various levels in Hitchcock's movies. I found the scene in Dial M really funny, really caught me off guard and I burst out laughing ...like a Carry On Movie or 1970s sitcom type of UK joke. Yes it was clearly a joke about looking gay with a little handbag hanging off his wrist.... But also some truth in that homosexuality was illegal at that time in the UK, to me Hitchcock was actually making a joke about the stupidity of that law, that's how it felt to me. I had not thought about the Frenzy guy possibly being gay ('foppish dandy') before, as he seemed more of a cockney Jack the Lad type to me but it's made me think about him using Ties as his weapon... Women barely wore ties, Men did.... Maybe it was him turning the women into men in his fantasy, etc Rest In Peace the Great James Earl Jones I have seen it now. Sadly it is indeed rubbish. If it is the basis for a new "Glass" like world, the Lady Raven maybe a Superhero, and if so her weaknesses will be Asthma, and Doing Really Stupid Things Around A Serial Killer. He was always going on about being Welsh... probably his Green Green ass of home. 😁😁 I am still going to see it in the cinema this weekend and am avoiding spoilers I always make time for a Symalanadingdong movie, even if they are said to be bad. The guy who shot Lincoln was an actor too. Has Robert De Niro said anything about the attempt yet ? Scorsese is still bitter that Dances beat Good fellas to the Oscar, and this is him saying he can do a better story about that kind of thing
