Great movie but (spoilers)

The movie really had something special, the tension under the surface was riveting – foreboding but so muted. But the issue that kept it from actually being flawless was, in my opinion, the resolution. You see, the power of this movie was in its courage and the constant movement forward, like a train. So when they just decided they weren’t going to go all the way, they derailed the entire feeling the movie had so patiently built up. It was like a betrayal. Sure, it’s difficult to do, maybe difficult to sell to studios, such a story if they went all the way and actually gone through with the murder. But I’ll tell you this. If you’re scared to take it all the way, nobody’s going to remember it, because there’s no reason to carry it eith you in your heart. All that tension, the characters so finely constructed, all sold so cheaply for the safest resolution they could stomach.

They built the movie up and then abandoned it at the very end, simply tapped out. So we’re left with the promise of what the story could have been had they actually accepted the responsibility of telling it like it was asking to be told.

A great idea and very good execution, ruined by the fear of going all the way.

I think the punishment that they gave him was worse than actually killing him. He now has to go through the rest of his life worried that one day his homophobic friends and family will see the pictures.
