I still think it's the kind of movie most people -- whatever their sexuality -- will choose to watch on streaming if they're going to watch it at all. But that's by the bye.

It is just the usual attempt to try to shame people into watching the film. Happened with Charlies Angels and recently with King Woman (implying you are racist if you don't watch it). Hollywood has been using this tactic for years now. Look at Rings of Power where criticism about the show is attributed to racism/sexism.

That video rather makes Kowalski's and my point though, doesn't it? That's a video of a man promoting his film to anyone who isn't a homophobe. That's not a video of a man saying anyone who doesn't want to watch his movie is a homophobe.

I don't think it's a particularly good marketing strategy to ask people to come and support a film on that basis. I can't imagine anyone wanting to see a film to make a point against other people who wouldn't want to see it. That's certainly not how I choose my entertainment.

And it's a strategy that doesn't appear to have worked out. But attempting to rally your potential audience is not the same thing as accusing anyone who doesn't want to see your film of being a homophobe.

The corollary of this is essentially that to not go and see the movie means you are a homophobe. It is manipulation and trying to shame people into watching and supporting his film. Note how in the video above there is nothing about go watch the movie because it is fun and well made, you should watch it for political and ideological reasons.

Nowhere in there is any suggestion that anyone who fails to answer the call is a homophobe. He'd just really, really like you to go and support his movie if you're not a homophobic weirdo. Which is fair.

It's not going to work. But it's fair.

Note how in the video above there is nothing about go watch the movie because it is fun and well made, you should watch it for political reasons.

On this, however, we agree. Which is why I think it's a bad marketing strategy. No-one goes to see a film to make a point.

Film is the first LGBTQ romantic comedy given a large release by a major studio.

And may be the last. When are producers going to realize there isn’t a big market for these niche films and shows?

Ok I watched the trailer since I never heard of this movie before this week. And its truly hilarious how trailer literally attacks straight people and hints them not to come because this movie is not for them. Then author cries and whines why didnt they come...

Woke people are lacking any self aware.

But even without g stuff. If it would be straight couple story. What kind of money did he expect? Its a romantic movie without any good joke. All jokes in trailer fell flat. Then there are two d-listers in lead role. Billie Eichner has zero star power outside of woke echo chamber. No one in their mind would come to see Billie Eichner as lead in romantic movie. Dude if ugly and 44 freacking years old.
As usually trailer told the whole movie. And there is nothing in movie at all. No conflict to overcome, nothing.

And then that idiot expected it to open to 20 millions? Every time those woke movies open and bomb after being praised by woke press and twitter - its hilarious to see how woke idiots have to come out to real world and see that their twitter feed in not the whole world. He truly thought that everyone wanted to see his movie because his twitter feed blabbed about coming.
