All very well put and I agree.
I felt like the flashback was reminiscent of The Witch, I felt some Hocus Pocus in there too, in the sense that it felt a bit restrained.
It's one of those cases where I end up preferring the middle part of a trilogy.
'Fear Street Part Two: 1978' was my favourite, too.

Just watched this. Agree with all your thoughts - but was it just me that found the movie so dark? 50% of the film seemed terribly lit to me, almost hard to make out what was going on at times.
