Are those robot dogs the aliens, or are they the actual alien’s equivalent of drones? The latter seems more likely, and if so I wonder when we’ll get to see the real ones.

How so? It only left me with more questions- why do they need babies, and who is the Chemo patient hooked up to the bed, an abductee?

Gabriel Byrne's character theorized that they are taking babies to "study us".
The girl on the show has stated that "The Aliens want to live".
The "chemo patient" didn't look human to me.
So my theory is that since he is inside a giant spaceship he is one of the Aliens trying to live by becoming human.
I'm thinking that They cloned us from the babies DNA.

The robot dogs seem to be some kind of hybrid mechanical/biological creature since they have organic brains inside.

It's an open question whether the "brain" inside is meant to be an intelligent alien brain or if its just an organic computer.

Based on the sick guy hooked up to some kind of life support, maybe these are aliens who had their bodies die and get transferred into these robot dogs.

Nope, the robot dogs are controlled from outside of themselves, because they use that machine to jam them.

Wasn’t the alien always in some protective gear in the other versions of the story? I do agree it’s the latter - and the chemo patient looked like a biped to me.

He looked human. Maybe it's going to be actual Earthlings from the future. They have to wipe out most of current humanity because it somehow leads to their extinction in their time. That's why they are taking babies - to engineer a new race of people that will we able to survive whatever causes the future extinction event.
