I’m not sure what I just watched
Devil’s Revenge features a cursed family, a relic, caves, demons, and William Shatner. Still, I have no idea what I just watched. The screenplay is a mess, and the editing is all over the place. There are a couple positives: The opening scenes in the (overly lit) cave create a nice atmosphere. There’s another sequence shortly after where the main character goes to pick his kids up from school. The demons are playing with his mind and perception (I think) and that creates a nice sense of dread and paranoia. It’s only for a few minutes, and then the movie goes completely off the rails.
Devil’s Revenge is a mess, but it’s always great to see William Shatner in anything. During the last 15 minutes, when the Shat hits the fan, the movie becomes absurdly fun. Watching a near 90-year-old Mr. Shatner blow away demons is worth the price of admission. (The makeup for the demons is good, but they’re shown much too early and far too often.)
