Needs a Resolution...

I was ok with the slow-moving plot but the character of Remmy really needed a proper ending and not in some soft metaphor. IDK why art movies always have to be art movies for art movie's sake. The movie or at least Remmy's character was pushing towards something. Even having her walk "for a time" and come back only to have Steve would have been fine by me.

We are lead to believe Mars has been abandoned by Earth due to war or something and Mars is reverting back to a dead planet.

We could have even flash forwarded to a future where she is rescued or some sort of resolution other than for her to walk and walk till she runs out of O2 and dies a lonely death.

Its like we have this great human story to tell only for reality to come back. If you want to make a reality-based movie, cool. Do it but why mix the fantasy, IDK... Was still a decent watch but sadly will be forgotten.

This is the kind of movie that gets made and Disney comes calling to hire the director for the next MCU film only to have the studio needing a yes man to do their bidding and not have a fussy director with their own vision.

Becoming all too popular a theme nowadays.

I think the deciding to leave and cast her fate to the Martian wind is the point. What happened is less important. Otherwise you have the saga of Remmy and what is her life like on another Martian settlement or what is her death like.

But, I do have to say, I thought Steve was the best robot I've ever seen in a movie ... maybe except for Robbie the Robot, or the Lost In Space bubble-headed Booby.

The robot stuff was cool. Way better than what they tried to do with FINCH... That was a bust for me as well. But if they would have turned this robot stuff into that sort of where FINCH tried to do, it could have been much better. Yeah, you are probably right on your other point as well. That was what I got from the movie. Just too bad it built up to let me down that way but its all good. Some will like, love or neither.

I think the ending could have been valid, but the movie did zero world building so we have just no idea what’s going on outside the bubble.

This was my biggest frustration with this film.

I just didn’t believe this one farm bubble was the ONLY inhabited space on Mars. Surely there are other bubbles? Maybe larger ones, subterranean bases or cities?

Like if this farm had that volume of stuff/mass, there was a shitload more of it on Mars. This wasn’t the only Mars settlement and Remmy’s family were nothing special new colonists.

I’d also question how far this dome was from other settled areas of Mars. It wouldn’t make sense to setup a dome for one random farm family super far from other settlements and sources of supplies.
