That could be the twist. In the original film his Mother was acting oddly aware of Candyman as a real entity even before the films more violent events. She mentioned something like ''He won't get me son''. And then the talk about ''he moves through the walls here''. My theory is she had already encountered him and I don't have to say the rest. Anthony's father is never mentioned either..
