Dubbed European Films

I'm starting not to mind foreign films dubbed in English. In this movie, as inThe Platform, they do it really well .

They are much better than they use to be but I think I still prefer subtitles.

I liked the character played by luppico del Garza le Costa

The dubbing was pretty good, but the obviously Spanish names attached to people with obviously American accents was a bit jarring. I wouldn't have minded if they'd have "Anglicized" the names a bit.

I mean, it's not impossible that an American (sounding) man would have a European name, but that many people, all running into each other? Or to flip it, that many Spanish people who speak English in thick American accents.

On that note, they talked about "moving to Barcelona" but he rang 911!

Calling 911 was just part of the translation into making the movie understandable for Americans. I had no problem with it. If he had dialed 112 it would’ve made no sense. Was he dialing for pizza or an ambulance?

reply

I'm not from Europe but I know 112 is their emergency services? 911 is different, American media is to omnipresent for people to NOT know what 911 is, but I think 112 is still known? And if not, the context makes it obvious?

reply

I didn’t mind it either. This is how the rest of the world views American movies and shows. I hate reading subtitles and listening to a language I can’t understand.
