Shoot you moron!

You have five (what would you call them gangsters, criminals, cult members) threatening you and your wife. They kicked in the door and you’re a lawman. You got the upper hand by grabbing a gun. Get them on one side of the room and if they won’t then FFS SHOOT THEM!

Also, can’t tell why the Wheboys seemed to have so much power in the whole state. From what I saw they just seemed like trash. They didn’t seem rich and they didn’t really seem like gangsters either. Why would the police do their heavy lifting for them?

reply

I agree. I was just hoping that he would shoot them; those disgusting jerks. I’m not sure why he didn’t pull the trigger

reply

Completely accurate man. A person expects Kevin Costner to be the hero in a movie where he’s the retired sheriff out West. I’ve never seen anyone get so many different guns pulled out of his hand in so many different settings as occurred with Costner here. It was so dammed frustrating

reply

I don’t think they had power in the whole state....just that county with the local law enforcement.

reply

Yep. I could accept the getting surprised when they crashed in the door, but once he had the gun there would have been no attempt to say don't move any real cop would have started shooting.

Then you get him deciding to go after them with only one hand... why in the world would someone that had lost the use of one hand try to go get these SOBs with a shot gun, the most difficult gun anyone could possible use one handed. Hell he knew where they lived, he knew that the son took the former daughter in law to work each day... they are in the middle of nowhere, so just sit up a perch somewhere with a high powered rifle and pop the one taking her to work. Wait till other weeboys come to see if anything is wrong and pop them one by one. But for the love of god you wouldn't go in with a shotgun.

reply

He did start the fire which caused a huge distraction/keep the clan busy. What I don’t get is why would the DIL change her mind one second after she wakes up, instead of the hours she had to think about it after the lunch(where she instead turned them in)

reply

She had a black eye so I would guess he beat the truth out of her. Probably had someone in town tell them that she was having lunch with an older couple. Probably knew the grandparents were going to try that.

reply

I agree, you just knew that the five of them were gonna over power him.

reply

Once they were acting like they were going to rape his wife all bets are off. Should have started with the 1 touching her and blew his fricking balls off.

+1

The unused and taken-away gun is such a tired trope. Somewhat understandable with a civilian, but not with a seasoned officer. There would have been no better time or place to drop those boys than in that motel.

reply

Precisely. And what's worse is when he was still pulling his punches in the burning house until after he got shot.

The fact that he's established as retired officer who was actually damn good made it just disappointing to see him get overpowered at virtually every part.

reply

You do realize that they were still in town while they were at that motel. Other people would have heard gun shots etc where they would call the town's sheriff and deputies. Plus the Weboys are well known wether they're good or bad.

The Blackledges while they are good people they should have just went back home instead of waiting for that ex daughter in law
