So, Autumn Night is gone

and I am sad. She was the most intelligent, educated and, arguably, most sympathetic cast member. She watched her baby daughter die! Motherfucker, it doesn’t get any worse than that. It just does not. The worst pain that is humanly conceivable is your child dying, let alone dying before your eyes, drowning, while you are helpless to save her.

The classic definition of Tragedy is to place a person in an IMPOSSIBLE situation and to see how close she comes to overcoming.l it. Only by placing her in the impossible do we take her full measure.

Autumn survived. Is there any more admirable human trait than surviving? No. Surviving is the baseline for human admiration. Of course there are others. Absent surviving, there ARE no other options.
