That is not what I expected.

Why is it not what you expected? Please tell us
shareI did not expect wicked doing this well, since joker 2, another musical, did so poorly.
Also about it is doing so much better than Gladiator II, maybe audience has changed, men have given up on watching movies.
G2 is a hit in Europe.
shareComparing Wicked and Joker 2 was the mistake. That they are both musicals is incidental to their relative performances at the box office.
shareyeah, this shit was too woke to waste money on, afro murican romans?!? gtfoh...
shareYes, that part is most likely to raise eyebrows.
Even audience without knowledge about history will have hard time to accept a black Roman emperor, since Rome is in Italy and Italians are quite white.
And indeed they shouldn't, and especially with the Jada Pinkett Smith's Queen Cleopatra documentary disaster not long ago, that part could look especially unfavourable.
I wonder what Italians would actually think.
Though this movie is not a documentary, people will probably feel a bit weird and laugh it off.
Yeah its propaganda, I might watch this movie one day when bored but ain't paying for it
shareWhy would that be a surprise? Wicked is huge in the US, but I guess the overseas box office would be poor compared to the domestic; no one knows Wicked in other countries.
shareI live in Sydney, which is not a big theatre town, or maybe it is but I am just not a musical theatre kind of person to know.
I heard they were building a theatre district in Sydney CBD, like London’s West End and New York’s Broadway, just few years ago, don't know how that went, haven't been to CBD for years.
