saw it. they dance like sluts

the big dance is near the end, and YES, I get the story, and it was made fine....

but instead of dancing a little and cutting to a LOT of audience reactions of astonishment, and parents covering kids eyes, etc they focus for like a solid 5 minutes of these young girls erotic dancing. They could have shown very little of it, and driven the point home much more effectively.

if you want to change the world with your message, you don't have to duplicate the exact thing you are fighting against. that just rings of cash-in hipocracy. no matter how good your intentions may be.

do real little girls do this in reality? Yes, still doesn't mean it makes any sense to EXPLOIT it. this was just irresponsible.

Should a French movie be made with an American puritanical standard? Would you want to watch American-made movies with a Muslim cultural standard in which photos of women's uncovered faces are blacked out in western magazines?

The only solution is to have everyone else in the world watch the original version, and Americans get an edited version.

The French aren't upset by the dance scenes (in context) in Cuties/Mignonnes" any more than we become upset at seeing an uncovered woman's face. The controversy is cultural.

reply

Typical satanist bullshit. Paedophilia is sick. You talk like a paedophile. They too claim it's just a matter of cultural standards. Apart from the french and you, the entire world hates it.

reply

I don't quite agree with Keelai on this but I'm weary of this pattern I'm seeing of ridiculously over the top & borderline psychotic sounding attacks consisting of variations of "You're a pedo defender" accusations at anyone who defends this movie in slightest.

I find a lot of the sudden outrage about this to be artificial & disingenuous reflective of internet/ social media, sheep reactionaries because these sort of questionable dance competitions & beauty pageants with young girls had been going on in plain sight for a long time & no one gave a sh*t.

reply

The US is your entire world and as hypocrite a place as there ever was.

reply

"the entire world hates it."

I doubt if you read global newspapers. No mention in any of them except the overreaction by a bunch of dopey Americans who haven't seen the film. Otherwise, this award-winning film is being praised. It was also nominated twice for best film at the Berlin International Film Festival.

1.9 on imdb.

First, condemnation of this movie is universal - not a wholly "American Puritanical" reaction.

The OP is correct: they could have made their point without showing 11 year old girls highly sexualized. This could have been done with appropriate age actors or with audience reaction shots.

Anyone who can't identify the boundary on this slippery slope is a perv. No 11 year old girl should be shown doing this - either at a live competition or in a film about the same. If it's only Americans who are outraged at this exploitation, then it's another reason I'm proud to be one. I will never see this film.

reply

You're fixated on the dancing because you're a pervert pretending to be outraged.

I've read and listened to many French and American critics as well as the public who watched the film and their reviews are positive since they are viewing the ENTIRE FILM IN CONTEXT instead of leering at little girls like you are doing, and then pretending to be upset. You're a dirty old man.

Context? I guess someone could make a film about sex trafficing of minors and having minors actually having sex on screen because, you know, the film is actually against it? Context has nothing to do with it - there are girls dancing in skimpy costumes. As the OP said, the movie could have been made without the controversy. But then, I suspect that you and your sophisticated friends wouldn't have watched it.

You're a dirty old man.

LOL, one of us has seen the film and the other hasn't.. One of us enjoyed watching 11 year girls sexualized because the film, in "context", is against it. Hint: it wasn't me.

Be gone pervert. It disgusts me even to discuss anything with a perv like you, and I won't further.

reply

now that is true...... people forget this is not an american movie.

many films from europe are controversial. look at lars von trier movies.

reply

And I wouldn't have it any other way.

Besides they had to. If they did ballet or some other boring dance you would have never found this movie

reply

It's more than the dance at the end. There's too much focus on their bodies when they are practicing too. I'm actually okay with something being uncomfortable to watch, but the camera is treating it like it's normal and that kinda pisses me off.

reply

Yeah. It's more than a little OFF that way, wasn't it? Let's not just show the girls dancing, let's be zoomed in ON HER ASS for extended tight close ups. What's up with that?? Like, viewer is supposed to be wanting to look at that and not given a choice to not to. So many bizarre choices made in this film considering what it is about.

reply

it was made by muslims right?

reply

No interest in seeing young girls being sexualized by creepy adults.

reply

I'm forced to wonder if the producers of this smut only did it under the guise of a film documentary in order to remain above suspicion by the more "enlightened" among us.

The ****ing pervs...

reply

I don't know. I think it is gross. Let children be children.

reply

Exactly. Children get exactly one chance not to have their childlike innocence stolen from them. Once it's gone, the damaged child is replaced by a damaged adult.

reply

I remember being in Taco Bell several years ago and there was a woman with two young kids in the lobby. The two young girls were about 6 or 7. This song comes on about thongs and booties popping and I was horrified how they were dancing. Very sexual. These two girls weren't even close to puberty and they were dancing like sluts. The mother didn't think there was anything wrong with it, but most of the people in Taco Bell were appalled.

reply

It's supposed to make you feel disgusted; would fleeting two second shots of the dancing have driven the point home? Nah people like you would still just be triggered over an expose of child exploitation.

So I guess anymore than a minute of holocaust footage in a doco about the holocaust is championing it?

That's your dumb arse logic at work here.

"Saw it, they dance like sluts"...So mature. Is that the ONLY thing you gleamed from this expose; some victim blaming?
I seriously doubt you even watched the whole film. Not once have you raised any concern about the reality the film exposes; instead: "they dance like sluts".
It wasn't intended to titillate; to see little girls as "sluts" is concerning...

reply

Whether it was intended to titillate or not, there were closeups of the girls' crotch regions. That is not ok. This is fundamentally different than documentary footage of the holocaust because the documentary-makers of holocaust movies did not victimise holocaust victims to create the footage de novo. In the case of the movie, actual girls were induced to engage in sexualised moves and were filmed, close-up doing so, in order to create the movie. I'm sure the filmmaker had good intentions but the movie's filming of actual underage girls doing these actions undermines and contradicts its own message.

I am really worried about the fact that so many, here and elsewhere, are not only defending the movie but so hateful towards those pointing out the movie's problematic strategy.

reply

Wrong Iffy. It's not fundamentally different when context and intention is everything, and the intention is to shock and disgust to hammer the film's message home - not to arouse and titillate.
How else could this be achieved without showing any dancing or demonstrating any of the adult moves?
Does a close up shot to show an adult dance move - with the intention to shock - suddenly veer into exploitation, but a medium shot doesn't? That doesn't make sense, and that is why context and intention is everything.

You could argue that a pedophile would still find it titillating even if the dancing were shown for a few seconds.
You could also argue that a pedophile would find Jodie Foster arousing while playing a child prostitute in Taxi Driver or even find Shirley Temple arousing. So where does that leave us?

There's who knows how many young girls in real life being taught to dance provocatively and arousing pedophiles so where's the equal concern and condenmation over that?
Instead it comes down to a curious case of shooting the messanger.

So then, if it was a dramatized Holocaust recreation for a film then it's victimization?

reply

How arrogant of you to declare that I am wrong. Am I not an equal member of society to you? Apparently not. Progressive authoritarian attitude raises its ugly head.

You are missing the point of comparing the two types of film. There is a fundamental difference between dramatising a Holocaust recreation for a film, and getting 11 year old girls to dance sexually for the camera and then filming it. In the case of a Holocaust dramatisation, actual people are not freshly harmed. In the case of getting 11 year old girls to dance sexually and filming it, the inducement to engage in sexualised behavior, and the filming of such behavior, constitutes harm in itself. The purpose is irrelevant. Some things are intrinsically wrong.

I'm sorry that you are unable to see that.

As to the question of equal concern and condemnation over real life young girls being taught to dance provocatively (which, actually, is EXACTLY what the movie does to the actual young "actresses" in the film), obviously I am concerned over that, so there is no need for you to engage in your underhand logical fallacy.

reply

be gentle... he's obviously new on the internet ;) Hasn't got the thing figured out yet.

reply

You're wrong you entitled schmuck.
Is that opposed to the conservative authoritarian attitude? The one that doesn't have a leg to stand on when it comes to their selective outrage over alleged misogyny and child abuse?

There's no fundamental difference when the content is exactly the same: to depict and condemn the evil.

How is a filmmaker supposed to draw attention to how young girls dance anf condemn it without being able to show any of it?

Again, you automatically equate the filming of minors dancing inappropriately as an appraisal, an attempt to titillate the audience -regardless of the overall context of the scene and entire film, which is condenmation and disgust.
What's concerning is all these outraged voices, apparently viewing the entire film, and still perceiving it as titillation.

You haven't addressed any of the points I've made above, and are happy to be outraged and shoot the film messanger.

You're more outraged by this fictional expose rather than the fact that the sexualization of minors continues to be widely accepted in REAL life in the form of ultra-competitive dance classes, suggestive clothing, and beauty pagents.
You fail to bring up anything this film is raised.

So actors automatically emulate the roles and questionable things they do in film now? That the young actresses weren't at all educated about their roles?
Was Jodie Foster influenced to be a teen prostitute after Taxi Driver? Did Brooke Shields become one after Pretty Baby? Did the cast of Kids go out and catch HIV?

reply

You are nuts.

reply

Iffy, at the end of the day your argument can be summed up like this:

"Any depiction of minors doing anything wrong on film should be banned! It doesn't matter what the context! How dare you say I'm wrong!"

Noted is your lack of equal outrage towards the title of this post being "these girls dance like sluts".

reply

I'm sorry that you are unable to see that.

Your point was dead on and so logical I can't believe anyone would have missed it in the earlier post. Bravo.

reply

Thanks. I think it is really worrying that so many people approve of this film, and that they are outraged when one points out that the film makes its argument by doing the very thing it purports to complain about. It's as if that's all invisible to them.

reply

Retromogal, I see you are new to the internet. Welcome! Hang out, see cool things, learn stuff, and enjoy. :)

reply

Are you still busy arguing in the American Beauty thread that minors like to entice adult males? *cough*

reply

Please come back after you've gained some "internet experience". :)

reply

Please come back after you've gained some better material, dickhead.

reply

Falling for my baiting of you displays your lack of internet experience. You'll get better at this over time, don't worry. :)

reply

Okay...um ouch...

reply

Conservatives don't do complex issues. I've seen Cuties, it's an intelligent critique on western hypersexualisation of tweens and conservative traditional views of girls which is just as toxic. If all you saw was girls enticing you then I would hate to leave children in your care. An outraged response without any intellectual reflection on the content and points made by the brilliant director whose lived experiences as a Muslim and female highlights issues largely misunderstood in our society. And after reading your appalling shallow insights I can see why.

reply

Do you enjoy eating brownies laced with dog poop? That's how this is sold. (If you after bright enough to comprehend this analogy)

reply

You are one of the idiots that doesn't do complex I see. And you have the nerve to think I won't get your simpletons analogy? Try getting an intellectual thought and ability to analyse a movie without REEEEEEEE

reply

enjoy your brownie ;)

reply

Better a simpleton than a pedo, which you obviously are because you support this film. I don't care how it's sold, this film is trash. The makers are trash. Those who let their children star in this are trash. Clue up.

reply

trust me, Sluts doesn't quite cut it for me.

reply

Seeing little girls as whores while thinking you have a leg to stand on condemning this expose into the mainstream sexualisation of children...You're pretty much the reason why this film exists and why girls are sexualized in the first place.

So not only are you a racist piece of shit, given your other post, but also a severe degenerate.

This site needs a serious clean up.

reply

This site needs a serious clean up?

As in what way...removing people from it who don't agree with you or says something that triggers you? Grip up.

reply

So, you’re the one who defends child porn and you say this place needs a clean up. What do you want cleaned out?

reply

"Defending child porn"?

But I guess those in your corner who label underage girls as whores and sexualise them are okay in your books...

Useless sick hypocrite.

reply

Amazing the amount of paedophilia enablers that have come out in favor of this . How many of them are paid to normalize this perversion?

reply

Nah the enablers are the sickos like you who keep arguing that little girls dancing is intentionally titillating...So weird...

And you think it's alright to call them whores...

reply

It's titlating to you. It makes me sick.

reply

Says the one who immediately thinks the entire film is trying to titillate them, and has no issue with 11 year old girls being labeled whores...

reply

They are pimped out. Pointing that out is the truth. Enabling it is the real perversion. So stop justifying child grooming!

reply

You obviously haven't seen the film and have absolutely no clue about the accepted sexualization of children in society that this film seeks to expose. Drawing attention to their adult dancing can't be done without showing it, dickhead.

Only a sicko tries to maintain that something intentionally disgusting was intending to arouse them. It wasn't filmed to arouse anyone.

The fact that you also have no issue with these girls being sexualized and called whores on this very thread says it all.

Put a sock in it, you projecting degenerate.

reply

I don’t understand why you are so ashamed of yourself. If you like child porn, that’s who you are. Twisting around with these absurd justifications you will sprain something.

reply

But these people who like this film and do embrace child porn are sick. This is basically child porn and I am surprised the French government allowed this.

reply

Have you been to France? They have a pretty lackadaisical attitude to some things.

reply

EB, you call little girls whores and jerk off over Neo-Nazis like Richard Spencer...

The skinhead brain trust has spoken. I hope you're sterile.

reply

Ahhhh! Funny you are! Calling me a neo-nazi? The irony OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH the irony. LOL

reply

What exactly is the irony, Spencer lover?

reply

That you're attacking people for expressing their opinion. Grow a pair, or ....well.

reply

By the way, since you're defending this POS film, you must be a pedophile yourself.

reply

Oh because you're so tolerant of the viewpoints and expressions of others, you Nazi cuck boy?

By the way, since you see underage girls dancing as titillating and like to call them "whores", you must be a pedophile yourself...

You a love Trump I'm sure; who defended a pedophile, wished a child trafficker well, and barged into Teen USA change rooms to "inspect" the girls - and you probably also loved that Milo "alt-right" fucker, who argued in favour of pedophilia.

I'm sure you listen to Qanon too, who's founder was charged with pedophilia...

You haven't got a leg to stand on, pedo.

reply

Uh, LOL, there are meds you can take and counselling you can get for your anger. LOL. But I'll close by saying, so what if I do support Trump. It's a big free country. Also, you can't argue with the pathetic (you) and stupid. So, you don't expect any more replies. Can't debate like an adult, stay in the playroom.

reply

You support an Orange pedophile-In-Chief while pretending to be outraged over this film. You're a grade A fuckwit. Don't forget your meds on the way out.

reply

The film was meant to shock you, not arouse your degenerate arses...

reply

Well, it is not going to shock me, because I am not going to watch it.
You have been advocating in favor of child porn. If you now realize that is degenerate, I am glad you see that. It is not often people online realize admit they were wrong.

reply

You're an absolute moron to be passing judgement upon a film you haven't seen. 🤣

The fact that you're not all outraged that the sort of dance number condenmed in the film is an accepted mainstay of American culture, or by people in this very thread calling little girls "whores", shows how full of it you are.

Get back to me when you have some new material.

reply

I'm betting you are one of those that wanted to ban The Last Temptation of Christ even though you never saw it, simply because someone else said it was blasphemy... well here's a novel idea, why not watch something before you squawk about it, read the book before you burn it, make some effort to educate yourself about what you are going to go chasing after with torches and pitchforks.

reply

Here, here Thomas.
These nimrods are so devoid of self-awareness that they're even proud to admit they won't watch a film that they want banned; the so-called "free speech warriors fed up with PC" proudly carrying on like Nazi book burners - as they always were.

reply

QUIT SAYING "CHILD PORN"...IT DOESNT APPLY TO THIS FILOM AND I THINK YOU MIGHT BE GIVING YOURSELF AWAY A LITTLE BIT.

reply

The irony is if you go to any elementary school talent show or basketball game where they have the little girls dance club or pom pom squad performing they will be doing the same crap. It isn't as if sexualization of little girls just started it has been going on for decades. Was a reason I told my daughters they weren't allowed to be cheereleaders or pompom girls because those were just nicer ways of saying "sports whores". Yet you see lots of moms pushing their kids to do this shit, and I'll guarantee some of these outraged idiot ranting about the movie have little girls they let do the same damn thing in school.

reply
