and the film isn't even out yet. So these Externals have been on Earth for thousands of years, with the job of protecting the planet. Well, where were they during the events of the 1st Avengers film when Earth was under invasion? And then where were they when Thanos attacked the planet? Its never good to find plot holes before the film is released
Maybe. Millsey72 thinks he's a king of finding plotholes, but does not actually grasp what a plot hole is. I don't follow him around, but he has posted on many boards I do follow and I have never seen him correctly identify a plothole.
Some of my plot hole comments have been debunked however this one seems legit. The planet could have easily been wiped out previously in the Marvel universe a few times and the Eternals did nothing because they are waiting for the deviants to attack?
Millsey, because a set of characters don't have the same priorities you do does not constitute a plot hole. Because a character in a movie chooses to use his rifle to chase of burglars and you would call the police is a difference in priority.
If the Eternals choose not to react unless Deviants are involved, that is the choice they made. Unless the film says they will act in all situations that threatens humans and they didn't react to Thanos, its not a plot hole.
Alternately, they may have. After all, we didn't see how the rest of the world was reacting to the initial invasion way back in the Avengers, and it seems the attack was confined to New York at that point. If there weren't any Eternals in New York at that time, what could they do?
Or perhaps they were there and fighting elsewhere in the city. That also applies to Thanos' attacks in Infinity War and Endgame.
It was their directive, so I can see that. We get this sort of thing here IRL... parents won't interfere with their children's lives if they're independent, and of adult age. Cops can't just go in and take the law into their own hands. They're still bound by those laws, etc.
They deemed those laws to be bipkus, so they've committed to not following the whole ordeal. That Arishem entity did say there will be judgment, so perhaps in a sequel, they don't get off scot free.
Ok, didn't watch the movie, yet. Waiting for disney plus.
But I watched CD's review, and he said that the Eternals had the mission to protect INTELIGENCE LIFE on the planet, and that means HUMANS, because the celestial that will be born from the center of the planet will use them (feed on them???) to gain power. If the celestial appears and doesn't have "food" something BAD will happen. They were bared from interfering in the wars between humans, but not to protect them form external attacks.
So obviously they HAVE TO PROTECT the humans, which they didn't.
I wanted you to know the distinction. Protecting the planet is like making sure it doesn't get blown up, turned into a radioactive wasteland, or get eaten. If the humans get enslaved, meh.
But it's the same with "save the planet" memo: we don't care about the planet per se, we care about life and humans. Even if life would become extinct (and humans) the planet would still be here, safe. It doesn't need "protecting" and we wouldn't be able to "protect the planet" anyway.
What? Attach engines and fly away if the Sun blows???
Same with your "distinction". What, if it turns into a radioactive wasteland is still not a planet???? And why would they protect Earth and not ... Mars? Or Pluto?
Nope, that distinction doesn't make sense. you protect something for a reason. And the reason ARE the humans in this case ...
That is a reason, protect the Earth from getting destroyed. One lifeform doesn't need to prevent the extinction of another. If it doesn't make sense to you, the problem is you.
Nope, the problem is you. They had to protect intelligent life on the planet (and afaik humans are the only form that had evolved as technologically intelligence), not just "the planet" - whatever that means.
While I am not one of them, there are people who believe in "protecting the planet" as distinct from "protecting humans." There are even some who think the former requires the disavowal of the latter.
‘Defend life”, “defend nature” I could understand as having meaning, a different one. But the planet it’s just a piece of rock .. those who would come would come for: humans, life, nature. NOT for “the planet”.
Just because you didn't understand it, doesn't mean it's poorly explained. Their reasoning from not interfering before is super simple. They couldn't interfere unless deviants are involved. As far as we've seen, deviants haven't been involved in any of the Avengers level threats. It's pretty cut and dry.
That's your argument? If I don't agree with you I didn't understand it? Are you retarded or something?
Yeah, It's pretty cut and dry and stupid.
They couldn't interfere but had no problems interfering, stopping wars (it's shown in the movie), giving them technology, etc.
And the worse of all: show me how were the deviants involved in the emergence that they stopped, killing a celestial in the process, to save humanity. The threat at that moment were not deviants and they had NO problem to save humanity. So much logic.
This is actually plot holes in ALL marvel movies except this one.
They already explained that they will only intervene if deviants are involved.
I'm more concerned about the fact that Ironman didn't do anything for captain America in winter soldier. Or the fact that all the avengers stay away from solo movies. Now that's the real plot holes.
Thanos or the invasion lead by Loki are NOT "human conflicts".
The celestial needs the humans to evolve and multiply, not being wiped of the face of the earth or their number halved and the planet maybe destroyed by Thano's armies.
Yeah, it IS a big plot hole, the "explanation" was there for idiots that would believe anything ...
And it's worse ...
alien invasion? Humans could be enslaved or wiped out - neah, we don't care.
Thanos attacks Earth, wages war which could wipe out humanity, wipes out half the population - we're cool, don't care, not our problem.
They find out that the mission is to help breed the most important being in the Universe, literally part of the Universe renewal program ... they suddenly realize how much they love humanity and forget that they should defend it from the deviants, not from celestials.
Fucking dumb.
But the problem is deeper: why even lie to them? Just send them there, tell them the real mission, don't even give them reasons to inter-mingle with the population and develop "feelings". Just tell them from the start: humans are food for the celestial, your job is to make them many. Simple.
Yeah, even if they go the other route it still makes better sense. They could just act like the gods of the earth. Stifle all kinds of conflicts and make sure the human grow to the best they can.
Yes ^^ it IS a plot hole. So let's say for the sake of argument Thanos got mad and said "to hell with it" and snapped the other half eliminating ALL human lifeform from the planet.
The eternals: "damn guys we really dropped the ball on that one. guess we shouldn't have sat there doing nothing"
