The IMDb rating is gone.
I checked 2 days ago and there was over 1000 votes with a 6.3 rating and how suddenly it's gone.

shareYou think ratings before opening aren't fake?
shareHow can they prove that though?
shareDo you think people who go to festivals and professional critics flock to Imdb by the thousands? No, it's trolls who live in mom's garage!
shareMarvel movies always have a lot of votes before release dates but they never got taken down. I remember 3 days before Venom came out it had 2000 votes and was a 9.0
shareIt's a double standard.
You can rate a movie really high before release: The Interview, Joker, all Nolan's movies. But you can't rate a movie really low before release: Captain Marvel, Eternals.
They don't want to hurt Marvel's feelings.
shareIt's not that simple.
Captain Marvel and Eternals have something in common: female directors, female stars. The society always discriminate women, that is why we have "quota" for them: board of directors, congress, Oscars...
The point is: we need to protect women, compare to give them "quota", pull the bad rating from IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes aren't a big deal.
Every other movie the director of Eternals did is no lower than a 7.1. Why pick on this one?
share7.1 is not a bad number, but 6.3? WOW that is a really bad score, if IMDB didn't put the plug, it will easily sink to 5.7. When it happen, can you imagine a headline like this "Marvel's worst review movie! Disaster recipe: A woman of color director; A woman of color lead; First Marvel gay superhero; First gay kiss."
sharei saw something pop up on twitter stating that its ratings were being flooded with trolls.
i'm not sure how much that's different from every other major movie.
the story i saw suggested that it was right wing trollie types who were bombing the film with 1 star ratings because the film has gay characters. who knows?
i don't know why imdb doesn't lock down all major films until their release date.
"i don't know why imdb doesn't lock down all major films until their release date."
Answer: Because the policy most of the time benefit movie studios.
Why? Did it ever occur to you to ask "Why movies tend to have high rating when release, but keep going down each year?"
Answer: By design on their rating "formula."
Why? Why design a formula like this?
Answer: It benefit movie studios.
I also have a problem with how they handle reviewing TV series. You can give a rating after only the first episode is released.
shareStaggered release, especially with some films on the festival circuit, could make that problematic. But if a film is obviously being trashed (or boosted?) then I'd have a mechanism to filter out the extremes.
sharewhen you have something like dune, where it's open in europe for weeks before the us, then that's an issue for sure.
i don't really see festival releases being a reason to open a film to ratings.
personally, i don't put a lot of stock in imdb ratings at all. i think letterboxd is a much more useful site, if only because it's less commonly referenced and seems less under assault by waves of trolls who have nothing better to do with their time than try to influence film scores.
but if you want genuine audience reaction to films, i think the only two really legitimate sources are cinemascore, who actually ask people as they're leaving the theatre, and the rotten tomato audience score, where they only accept ratings from verified ticket buyers.
everyone else is open to manipulation by fanboys, haters, and everyone in between i believe. if there are others, i'm not aware of them.
I didn't know that about Cinemascore and Rotten Tomato audience score - that quite interesting, thanks.
shareIMDb's rule is to not allow ratings or reviews before the movie is officially released. I too saw the rating disappear (and was surprised to see it so low at around 6.6) and then saw that the release date of the movie is now set to Nov 5th.
So the ratings and reviews will begin / appear from that day on.
It premiered at festival and had a world premiere , imdb usually allows reviews unless negative news articles happen
