Harlan's death was suicide.
Ransom attempted his murder (I would say), was guilty of arson (and I would think a whole whole whole lot more) for burning the blood lab, and guilty of killing Fran. Fran was guilty of blackmail, but died.

Oh, dude! You spoiled my plans! I was building on Information-Police's comment, hoping someone would respond to mine with something like, "Is Ransom the killer?" or "Who's the hero?" I was gonna respond, "The hero is the killer."
