Passing for Black

There was a scene where Irene (Tessa Thompson) says : It's easy for a Negro to pass for White. I'm not sure it would be so simple for a White person to pass for Colored.

In the 1930's my wife's aunt, who was quite white, was traveling from Miami to Detroit. She had acquired a deep tan from the Florida sun. She was barred from staying at a motel, because the desk person thought she was Colored

Read John Howard Griffen's "Black like Me". He used a medication that turned his skin darker. He then traveled to the South, shaved his head, applied some skin dye and passed as a black man for several weeks.

I found the film beautifully portrayed in the scenes, clothing, hairstyles etc... But for me it was painfully slow and did not give me enough to invest in anyone but Irene
