Yup, stick to the book. This adaptation did not make me happy and almost ruined my fond memories of the book. I stopped watching after 10 mins. I did not like the actors at all; not who I had in mind. I kind of pictured Kate Hudson to play the female lead when the book came out around 2003 and Luke Wilson to play the male lead. Personally—I’m gonna sound rude, but to each his own— I didn’t find the cast attractive, except maybe the lead actor. But he still wasn’t close to what I had in mind. The movie definitely missed the mark on quality. The story is supposed to be fun, light, charming and feminine; instead it was drab, postfeminist and lacked sense of humour. It seemed like it purposefully did everything in its power to not have the book’s essence, so it’s a no for me. I have strong attachments to Sophie Kinsella’s books, and it’s going to be tough to please little old me, but at least Confessions of a Shopaholic tried to give viewers and readers what they wanted. This didn’t. Staying away.
