When Diane is attempting to kidnap her "daughter" from the hospital and is cornered by police, they would have shot at least eight times. When you draw a gun and aim it at the police when they tell you to put it down and you do not they will rightfully put you down.
A shooting in real life in not like a videogame. There's no headshots or anything like that. You're shooting somebody, you're shooting as many bullets as possible, to maximize the probability of one of them stopping him.
I would think at least 3-4 shots. Maybe 8+. But I admit it's not a subject I'm accustomed to. Nonetheless, even for me, one shot seemed very low and improbable.
I guess it depends of how messy is the situation, how big is the person in front of you, how nervous you were, how fast you had to react, and so. Better safe than sorry.
Yes, it is a major problem since it determines the conclusion of the film. Also yes, if you point a gun at a police officer when they order you not to they will open fire at least several times and since there was three officers 8 bullets sounds about right.
I understand that you mean the mother would have died if she had received a more realistic number of shots. But hey.. it's a movie... she could have some 50-Cent-like DNA !
Well she kind of did have 50-cent-like DNA after being shot she fell backwards down a shit ton of metal stairs and ended up falling on her head, which when the scene cut already had a puddle of blood under it. Lo and behold she is still conscious as the movie ends.
Not sure how much of a difference it makes, but that was security, not police (they call security over the p.a. and it shows them running down the steps) and they most likely aren't used to being in that situation. After the first shot, the guards may actually have simply been surprised that they had to do that.
I actually thought the scene was being set up for Chloe to knock Diane down the steps, the way the camera made sure it showed Diane walk right in front of her daughter and stop right in front of the escalator.
Not sure if they all do though (but it seemed to be a big hospital so maybe). I'm in Canada and no hospital security in my province have guns (obviously not the States).
But I remember in John Q, which took place in, I think, Chicago, the security guard he took hostage didn't have a gun in that movie. Depends on the plot I guess.
My husband does security and most of the jobs are unarmed. You need a special permit where we are (U.S.) to do armed security. My husband has that permit but most of the security he does does not require him (or anyone) to be armed.
