2018 and up, everything changed... I heard the original was suppose to be black because TMNT's co-creator – Kevin Eastman – says he named the character after his ex-wife, who was mixed. Latest iteration of April's design Velma'd up with activist feminist attire and more plumped to satisfy the BBW.

The blogpost was interesting. April Oneil's bushy hairdo was a perm like Cher from the 80s. It was popular back then among white females. Then they have versions of her being a white girl with a tan, a black girl, and then a hispanic or mixed race looking female.

It looks like they kept the original elements of her perm and her rocking a cute orange afro in the 87 tv series. Olivia Thirlby could have played a good April Oneil. Personally for me, the only April Oneil was the 87 cartoon April Oneil. Megan Fox did try to remake it somewhat with her yellow costume, but she needed the orange afro hair thing going I guess.

And dude, Eastman's wifey is gorgeous.

Yes, the other iterations part of the "guest era" of the series, a span of the comic where freelance indie creators were invited to contribute issues of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles that did not rely on continuity.
