I did not expect to like this (spoilers)
and I was right. I didn't particularly like Dunkirk and to me this was more of the same. Long sequences of frantic movement and pounding music in a brilliantly realised spectacular setting is quite effective but it doesn't lift a film once the novelty wears off.
I thought the two leads were good and everyone else really. But the German pilot stabbing one of them was a bit silly. The woman and baby and the milk coincidence seemed gratuitous. And the way the officers spoke to the men seemed too contemporary.
Sometimes you go to a film with low expectations and are pleasantly surprised - this time I wasn't.
