so - accepting the pilot scene was a plot device to remove Blake, and also to underline the humanity aspect of the film...
what on earth were S+B going to do with a captured German pilot given their task was still pre-eminent?
(yes I appreciate the plot doesnt deal with that, but it was the first thing that struck mne once it was clesar they were going to pull him out of the burning plane).
It was just a straight up plot device to kill Blake, nothing about that scene was logical or reasonable. It was quite lame actually.
shareall a bit odd really. they could have had blake dieing after the explosion in the dugout/dormiitory for example. i can only assume it was tied up with displaying humanity etc - but left a messy "get out"
