What happened to England?
Looks like they just gave up.
shareThey weren't fast on their feet like Croatia was.
shareThey are coming home.
shareWhich match?
Vs. Belgium? They're not at that level. Belgium are a stronger squad in every position as well as a team. England were outplayed.
Vs. Croatia? Croatia has the best midfield in the World Cup, not just in terms of the quality of their players (Modrić & Rakitić are the best in the world) but also how they work together in midfield as well as their wing backs who play higher up the pitch in attacks...
Whereas England's biggest weakness is their midfield so they were forced to play the ball back or rely on long balls which were often won by Croatia's players... Also, England's players need to work on their fitness and get experience with managing their level throughout matches and a tournament... Physically they're not at the level of the top teams...
England had an excellent tournanent and has a very young team they can build on, but they're not at this level yet... Their media got ahead of them so people were shocked by the latter results... There is no shame in losing to Belgium or Croatia...
Vs. Croatia. I gotta give them a lot of credit, they never gave up and played hard. Near the end of the match you could tell England was winded. I know England takes football very seriously so I was surprised when they lost.
shareHarry Kane didn’t seem to have the energy in later games, Sterling started far too many games, the squad wasn’t rotated enough, lack of creative midfielders didn’t help either, I’d of brought Jack Wilshere along, but the England WC squad is severely lacking in quality compared to the likes of France or Belgium right now.
So few quality English players breakthrough in the Premiership these days, just take a look at Harry Kane, loaned out and overlooked for years until he got his chance to shine in a few UEFA Cup games a few years ago, if Spurs hadn’t qualified for the UEFA back then, Harry Kane may never of broken through or at a much later date.
The current squad over achieved tbh, their best chance was with the 2006 squad, quality team but were lacking a great keeper and decent manager to unite them.
I just hope Karamoko Dembele who plays for Celtic youth team sees sense and plays for England (Born in London) at the next World Cup! If you’ve not heard of him check him out on Youtube!
Scott Sterling? He was the best goalie in the tournament. Check out his highlight reel.
